Indeed you are correct (hence the name <strong>Word</strong>press). But that doesn't mean that it can't be extended to do so. Keep watching this site. We have every intention of making photo galleries more manageable via wordpress.

Wordpress is not meant to handle photos, it's a blogging tool intended for text, not photoblogging, use gallery or coppermine for proper photo management, and anyway images are best uploaded via FTP.

Yeah, we do have the Tiger OS type admin installed. I do agree that it is coolness. But unfortunately, the effect is only truly visible when using a Mozilla type browser (e.g. Firefox). I'm probably the only one taking advantage of this fact. lol.

We'll look into the script that you suggested. Many thanks Ethan.

well..first of all i suggest u compress all the sizes using a photoshop action... make the sizes smaller to.. then google for this piece of php code called lussumo filebrowser... it has to reside in your own server.

upload your photos to a folder and subfolder. put the filebrowser inside and u have a simple image browser.

Well, the problem with flickr is that there's an upload bandwidth limit of 20mb. Considering Lincoln's comment above about users being dumb, how many are going to perform compression before uploading? I suppose its not a matter of hosting or harddisks or interfaces, its bringing all the individual parts together and creating a workable one click solution.

You can try this photo sharing webiste:

http://www.flickr.com/

They provide free image hosting and if I'm not mistaken, they have a plugin for wordpress too. This will save you up a lot of disk space and bandwidth if you have a tone of photos to show.
