The Great Vacation Of 2006: Introduction

Ok, so WL and I are planning a vacation for sometime end of next year (Yes, you read that right. Year 2006). That gives us a whole year to plan and save for the trip. Our target is Australia. As of this moment, nothing has yet been set in stone (including the destination) but I figure that this is as good a place as any to set a record of what goes on during our planning stage. It will also serve as a reminder and checklist of what else needs to be done.

Weather in Australia is generally unpredictable. But as a guideline, we are targetting the Spring and Summer seasons (September - November = Spring, December - February = Summer. Ref: Australian Govt Cultural and Recreational Portal). We intend to take a month off work and run around the continent, visiting all the states if possible. We’ll need to take a closer look at the 2006 calendar to finalise a travel period. I was thinking around mid November to mid December (or perhaps Christmas). However, this is also subject to availability of lodging, flight tickets, and all the other logistical mumbo jumbo.

I figure an initial travel budget of RM10,000.00 per person. This may fluctuate depending on season and exchange rates. We’ll be minimising cost where possible so don’t expect a five star vacation. To minimise cost, we may plan our trip to avoid peak travelling seasons (Malaysia and Australia).

Finally, we are looking for some travelling companions. A party of 4 (including us) is the best but we have nothing against travelling in a larger group. The main requirement is that you keep an open mind and be willing to try everything. Although this is an open invitation, we do prefer to travel with people we know. So strangers, if we get to know each other well enough within the year, you are welcome to join. If you are interested, have the time and money to spare, and don’t mind travelling with us, leave your mark and we’ll be in contact.

Also if you know of anyone who’s in Australia (or you yourself are in Australia) and willing to provide us accomodations for cheap, leave your mark as well ;)

Recap:

  • Destination: Australia (probably)
  • Travel Period: Sometime between October and December (Spring through Summer)
  • Duration of Vacation: 1 month (30 days)
  • Travel budget: RM 10,000.00

Checklist:

  • Decide on a final destination (Australia, probably)
  • Set a travel period
  • Set a travel itinerary
  • Book accomodations, flights and logistics

[…] Sunday is here. Last day of PIKOM PC fair at KLCC. I’ve had my say about various notebook brands and models. It is doubtful that I’ll actually make a purchase anytime soon cause I don’t have the funds available to me. Partially due to the commitment that WL and I made to California Fitness and partially due to our commitment to having a great vacation next year. […]
