Nanta Cookin’ - Korean Percussions
Two of my colleagues went on a vacation to Korea during the last Raya holidays. While they were planning, another colleague mentioned that if they had the opportunity, they should go watch Nanta. We were collectively saying, “What the heck is Nanta?”
She described it to us as an on stage percussions performance using everyday kitchen utensils. That is, I suppose, an apt enough answer. A quick search on Google turned up a better description of the Nanta Cookin’ (actual title of the show). The article is a little dated (read: expired) but the description is still applicable. The description reminded me of Stomp, a West End musical that performed in Malaysia not too long ago.
As it turns out, my colleagues didn’t attend the Nanta performance because the cost was too high (W40,000 or approximately RM160). It was a good thing too, considering that the very same Nanta team will be performing in Genting International Showroom, Genting Highlands (talk about irony).
Nanta Cookin’ (Genting Highlands) will run from 18 November to 27 November 2005. It is supposed to be a 90 minute explosive performance. The shows focus is mainly on rhythm and percussions with little verbage, making it one for audiences of all ages and nationalities to enjoy. Check the Genting website for full show details and ticketing prices (ranging from RM90 to RM180), seating arrangments, and room package rates. Reservations and enquiries can be made at Genting One Hub or by calling +603-2718 1118.
Since most of our department will be up in Genting Highlands for the annual E-Genting Programming Competition, we are now debating whether we should attend. Maybe there’s a staff rate somewhere that we don’t know of…
