More From California Fitness
WL and I were at Menara Standard Chartered again yesterday night. Aaron signed us up for a one day free trial with a Fit Start program complete with a peronal trainer for each of us. We got in at 8pm. Prior to that, while we were walking from KLCC to California Fitness, I received a follow-up call from Law Pei Pei. It was a pleasant surprise, that she would take the time and effort to give us a call to see what we’ve decided. Good on her.
After changing into our sweats, we were put through our paces in order to evaluate our fitness level, strengths and weaknesses. My personal trainer was this fit dude by the name of Mano G. All around nice guy, muscle bound, 9% body fat and all that. Kinda intimidating when you’re fat with a 26% BMI. lol. But it was fun. We went through several machines and worked on the thighs, calves, biceps, triceps, chest, shoulders, stomach, as well as some flexibility tests. It went fairly well as I managed to scrape together enough to get past what he threw at me. However, I’ll be the first to admit that I am not fit.
So, after all is done, we went back down for more chit chat. This time was with the head of the Personal Trainer team Tony. He recommended the 12 week personal training (PT) package for WL and 24 week PT package for me to help us achieve our goals. It didn’t sound half bad until he started talking about the price.
The premium for a PT session ranges between RM 95 to RM 125 (with RM 125 being the norm). Purchasing a PT package upon enrolment gets an additional discount, cutting down the cost per session to RM 85 (which is still high, mind you). One week consists of 2 PT sessions. Going from here and doing the maths, the 12 week package costs RM 2040 while the 24 week package is double that. Included in the PT package is a RM 50 or RM 100 adidas voucher, depending on which package you take, a free kick fit session, and free body checkup. Tony mentioned that if we do decide to take up PT, he will speak to whoever’s in charge and give us the best possible deal for our monthly and enrolment fees.
Come Tuesday morning, after sleeping over it, WL and I came to the decision that we will join California Fitness and make a 36 month commitment, starting January 1st 2006. Fifth time’s the charm as we paid Wisma Std. Chart. a visit for the fifth day in a row. We’ve gotten to know the staff well and they already know who we were looking for.
It took another hour for us to get through the formalities and sign the documents. At 10pm, after signing over a whopping RM 6274.80, we were both greeted and welcomed as the latest members of California Fitness.
What we got out of the offer (per person):
- 36 months membership
- 1 month VIP pass (shh…)
- 1 Backpack
- 1 Drinking bottle
- 1 T-shirt
- 1 Padlock worth (RM 5 *wink*)
- Full worldwide access to all California Fitness clubs
For future reference, we are now officially broke [read: no more outings :(].

[…] Sunday is here. Last day of PIKOM PC fair at KLCC. I’ve had my say about various notebook brands and models. It is doubtful that I’ll actually make a purchase anytime soon cause I don’t have the funds available to me. Partially due to the commitment that WL and I made to California Fitness and partially due to our commitment to having a great vacation next year. […]

Seems we signed up at about the same time. I got a 24 session PT package, and got the off-peak membership which allows me to go to 1 club, everyday, but not between 5-9pm. But going in at 4:55pm is okay. :P
How’s gym working out for you so far?
