Welcome To The Family
It is Saturday, 19th November 2005. This evening, my sister will be having her wedding ceremony and dinner at Palace of Golden Horses, Mines. It should be a grand affair, considering the location and the amount of effort that has gone into preparations. Hopefully, it doesn’t rain today like it did the past few days. But that is today… Three days ago was the important day.
That’s when my sister, Amy, and her fiance, Simon, were officially registered and the Malaysian government recognised them as husband and wife. A momentous occasion, albeit one that was somewhat anticlimatic. The registration was at Maju Junction in KL, where the registrar was located. We (my family, WL and myself) arrived a little late and had to give up the number that Simon had acquired when he arrived earlier. That was cause for some sour moods as we had to wait a little longer for our turn to arrive.
As luck would have it, several couples skipped their turn as well and we wound up taking the ninth slot of the day (instead of the original 4th). That’s 100 minutes later according to my sister’s estimates of 20 minutes per couple. Our turn came soon enough and we filed into the room where we witnessed the signing of their marriage license. My dad and Simon’s father were the key witnesses. The lady in charge briefed them and swore them in. It took all of 3 minutes (according to my camera, since I was taking a video of the proceedings). There was no exchange of rings, since they’d left that at home. Besides, that’s going to happen today.
What was important was that Simon is now officially my brother-in-law and my sister is now Mrs. Au Yong. Take note of that. Those who want an extra angpao (red packet) next year can visit them and wish them Gong Xi Fa Chai. But that’s really besides the point. After the registration was over, we took the opportunity to snap some quick photos and went our seperate ways. But once again, I would like to welcome Simon to the family and wish both my sister and him congratulations. Now the rest of the world knows…

Thanks Victor & Wei Li for the awesome & tremendous help you have rendered on the night. Really kudos to you guys for slaving away whilst I relinquished my control freak status and took on the once-in-a-lifetime-relax-yo role of bridegroom :) Ya guys rawk! :)
Thanks Wu Han & Michelle for your presence & kind words. Yes, Amy was and is GORGEOUS :) She’s an awesome wife too :)
