GotW: Chuzzle Deluxe

Greetings family, friends, acquantances and strangers. Its that time of the week again (and what a week it has been). Without further ado, I present to you this week’s Game of the Week… Chuzze Deluxe. Using the classic match-three game play, this game gives new meaning to cuteness. Just load it up and see for yourself.

The game doesn’t have a story mode, so if you’re looking to ‘finish’ the game, you might be a little disappointed. However, if you’re looking for something that you can pick up and play whenever, to while away the long boring hours, then this is the game for you. There are four (4) game modes to choose from, each with its own unique challenge.

The first is the Classic Chuzzle. In this mode, you try to pop enough chuzzles (they are the little furry creatures that fill up the screen) by matching three of the same colour to clear each stage. The stage is declared clear once the bottle at the side of the screen is full. A hint button is provided in case you get stuck. To help you or hinder your way are various special chuzzles such as the chuzzle bomb which blows up a fair bit of the playing field when popped, the chuzzle lock which locks the row and column where the chuzzle appears, the giant chuzzle which takes up 4 squares, and rainbow chuzzles which gives you a big bonus when you find and match three of them. Clearing more than 1 set of chuzzles at a time will earn you combo bonuses while popping multiple chuzzles in a row gives you a chain effect bonus. Both of these go a long way in helping you earn the score you need to proceed to the next level.

The second game mode is Speed Chuzzle. This mode is similar to Classic Chuzzle except that you’re playing against the clock. You’ll need fast eyes and quick matching skills get by. A time bar at the bottom of the screen shows you how much more time you have left. Run out of time and a chuzzle lock is applied. Pop chuzzles, and perform combos and chains to get a bigger time bonus and give yourself a little breathing space. However, take too long and you’ll soon find yourself out of moves.

The Zen Chuzzle game mode provides gamers with unlimited game-play. This means that the game goes on and on and on and on until your eyes drop out of their sockets. You can leave the game and return to continue whenever you like. It just never ends. This is a great way to earn unbeatable highscores and gain some otherwise unattainable trophies (more on those later).

The final mode is the Mind Bender. This is different from the other game modes in that you don’t need to pop any of the cute fuzzy creatures. What you need to do instead is to get them to listen to you and line them up in a predefined pattern to clear the level. There are five mini benders in each level. Can you clear them all?

Other features of the game include a trophy room. As you progress through the levels, you are given the chance to earn various trophies. Some are easy (like playing an entire game without using hints) while others are downright dastardly (for example popping 1,000,000 chuzzles). Collect all the trophies and you’ll qualify for the trophy collector’s trophy.

The game comes with funky in game music and superb fx. The graphics are also excellent. Watch those fuzzy chuzzles shiver and cower in fear as you tickle and push them to their popping doom. A little hint for those who don’t want to use the hint button. If you wait long enough, one of the chuzzles will shiver. That’s a hint all on its own. It means that moving that chuzzle somewhere will cause a group to pop.

And now, what everyone is waiting for… how do we get a little more play time out of the game. Unfortunately, there are no chuzzle activation key available for public consumption. If you want one of those, I suggest you purchase the game (which you should do if you enjoyed it after a few hours!). However, for trying out the game and getting a little more than the hour that publishers allow, please refer to Chuzzle Deluxe at Boredworkers’ Game Of The Week for the recommended download and crack files.

  1. Download both the recommended game and crack file.
  2. Install the game.
  3. Uncompress the crack archive to the game install directory.
  4. Run the .exe from the crack archive.
  5. Wait pass the intro screen and click the “Crack” button when it appear to apply the necessary patch.
  6. Start the game and have fun.

[…] The game mechanics are simple and based on the classic match-three game play (similar to Chuzzle). Drag rows or columns along its path to match the coloured gems. Clear multiple sets of different colours or chain together a combo to rack up the score. But watch out for cracked gems and blocks of coal as they’ll hinder your game plan. Cracked gems lock the row and column they are in while coal is just plain unusable. Match the colour of the cracked gem to remove them from the playing field. However, once a chunk of coal appears, it can’t be removed. You’ll just have to live with it and work around it. […]

    why the chuzzle was locked?

    how to get more scrambles?

  3. gbyeow Said,

Chuzzles get locked for various reasons. If you’re playing Speed Chuzzle, they get locked when you take too much time to make a set. During normal game play, they just get locked because its part of the game. Although I do believe that the same speed rules may apply.

Are there any cheats or tips on how to get through all the mind bender puzzles?? I’ve been working on them but I can’t get all of them solved and i need help.

pixx: Sorry forgot to answer your other question. Scrambles are like 1ups. You get them when you hit a certain number of points. In this case, if I remember correctly, its every 50,000… or was it 100,000…

Cris: Sorry mate. Not much help there. If you are a little more specific in terms of which puzzle you’re stuck at, then yeah, maybe I can help. That said, the way I usually approach those puzzles is to work from the outside in.

[…] Anyway, I finally decided that I would select the game that I enjoyed the most. And that game will have a featured spot on Boredworkers.com’s GotW for a month (maybe more if I am too lazy to take it down). So without further ado, let me introduce to you 2005’s GotY… (drumroll)… Chuzzle Deluxe. […]

What constitutes a bad move?? and a flawless game? how do you get that trophy?? Please help!

  10. gbyeow Said,

    July 11, 2006 @ 7:04 pm

A bad move is when you try to make an ‘invalid’ move. This means dragging the chuzzles to a position which does not clear any of them and it bounces back to its original position.

If I remember correctly, getting the Flawless Game trophy requires you to complete without getting a chuzzle lock.

I love the Chuzzle game, but want to get higher scores. I did not find any info on how many points each play gets on or inside the box. Did I miss it? If so, where can I get it from.

I have been playing zen chuzzle for a while and just got a chuzzle with sunglasses appear. Is this something important or just a novelty feature. I have not seen it again and wondered what I did to get it. Can you please help. Thanks

    G: I believe it’s just a novelty feature :)

  15. Cynthia Said,

What do the charms across the top of the board mean in zen chuzzle? How do you get more? Are they useful or just another novelty?

G: Good question. It’s been a while since I’ve played the game and I’ve forgotten. Sorry. Anyone has an answer for Cynthia?

  16. Ray Said,

    June 21, 2007 @ 5:26 pm

I have collected six symbols in zen chuzzle

If i get another one there might be an answer

G: Cool. Go for it :D

In response to Cynthia’s question, after the sixth gem the first one will turn gold. I have gotten to the point where all six are gold to see what comes next.

    G: Diamonds perhaps?

  18. sojus Said,

    November 2, 2007 @ 9:52 pm

After all six are gold comes rainbow. Don’t know what happens after all six are rainbows… Will find out (only have two at rainbow-level by now).

G: You truly are patient >.<

If you go to the trophy room and click randomly on trophys that you have gotten a secret game appears. Its really COOL. I forget which ones you click on but a charm will appear when you get one right and so on until you unlock the secret game.

  21. Nilro Said,

About the standard chuzzle game: i think that locks are applied when there is a move resulting in a combo and you miss it. All locks occur after a non-combo move.

  22. Rob Said,

    October 31, 2008 @ 5:14 pm

lets see.. to start, flawless just means completing a game without a bad move. You are able to get locks.. I’ve done it. Infact there are cheats. Don’t read if you want to get the trophies legit. You can get flawless and save all big chuzzles in the game by setting up a speed chuzzle game, play perfectly until you get a big chuzzle, then walk away. Come back after a little while to scramble and then let the game play itself out. You can get speed demon and all the other speed related trophies by using the spacebar to pause and have a look around. There are more ways to get the harder ones like bursting a group of 8 but I’ll let you guys figure that out!

Is the Zen Chuzzle REALLY neverending? I am over 30 million, and still going. But I was disappointed that when all the charms at the top go gold, then rainbow, then BACK to gold, then rainbow AGAIN?? I was hoping for silver, black or something new!! Do I have one of the highest scores on this game? I started playing it about six weeks ago and I have set 500,000 for a daily goal. Is it something you can play on for years??

I have been playing the same game of Zen Chuzzle for 18 months and are at 86,000,000 points with all the charm colors being changed at each level until one reaches the rainbow colored level. After this, you continue to collect points and charms, but there is nothing beyond this. Too bad……
