eGENTING Programming Competition 2005
Damnit, I can’t sleep. I just got back from Genting Highlands where my department, eGENTING’s R&D (Systems), held the fourth installment of our annual programming competition. The story behind the competition is that our department has always had a difficulties with staff recruitment. The reason being that interviewees have a tendency to exagerate their CVs in order to secure a job. The problem with that is when they do get hired, very few ever perform up to par. So the Programming Competition was born.
The eGENTING Programming Competition 2005 was held in Resort Hotel, Genting Highlands. Approximately 160 participants signed up for the event and a total of 114 (last count) had the guts to show up for the grueling 7 hour paper. A few of us went up a day earlier to help with preparations and registration. I am now 4 of 4 for attending the competition. The first year as a participant and the following years as a facilitator. For the third year running, I was cast into the role of mic-jockey (read: MC) for the event. You’d think that they’d get bored of hearing my voice by now. I got sick with the flu halfway through the event so I retired early and let someone else handle the podium.
IMHO, this year’s event was another successful one. However, we can’t really tell until we get around to evaluating the answers and finalising a list of winners. Kudos to Ms. Tan Chee Leng (department admin) and all her little helpers for organising the event and seeing that everything went as planned.
