GotW: Diner Dash Deluxe

Another busy week has come and gone. That means its time for another Game of the Week. This week’s game was created by GameLab and promoted by several publishers, including GameHouse, and Yahoo! Games. This week’s game feature is none other than Diner Dash Deluxe.

Meet Flo, a regular office paper pusher (much like you and me) who is just about fed up with the sh*t she has to handle in the office (much like you and me as well) and is looking for something better (coincidence?). Her solution is, of course, to own and operate her very own restaurant. And so we’re put in her shoes as she goes about building her chain of restaurants and food empire.

The game comes in two modes, namely Flo’s Career and Endless Shift. The game play for either modes are the same. The key difference being that the former has a story line while the latter doesn’t.

In Flo’s Career, you start out with a small diner and try to earn enough dough so you can upgrade the place and eventually buy a bigger lot. There are four (4) different restaurant types (levels) each with 10 unique profit goals to achieve (stages). You complete each stage by earning the amount of money according to the goals of the stage before the restaurant closes. Earn enough and you may be granted ‘expert’ status for that stage.

Game play is easy enough. Customers will come into the restaurant in different group sizes (from 2 to 6 customers). You seat them at the tables according to the size of the party. After waiting a while, they’ll be ready to place their order. Once an order has been taken and passed counter, the kitchen will cook up their meal. You serve that to the customer and they’ll eat. After another short waiting period, they’ll call for the bill, give you a tip according to their satisfaction level, and you can clear the table for the next group of customers (Basically the whole restaurant service lifecycle).

Each task in the cycle earns you points (or cash) that goes towards achieving your goals. There are several ways to earn more money. The first is by matching the colours of the customers to the colours of the seats around the table. The colour of the seats is determined by the colour of the last customer that sat in it. Keep matching the seat colours to the customers and the bonus multiplier for that seat will increase. For every customer and seat colour matched, a bonus of 100 points (times the multiplier) will be awarded.

The second method of earning bonus points is called chaining. As mentioned, each task earns you points. By performing the same tasks in a chain (performing only that task and not interchanging with other tasks), you earn an extra bonus. Every additional link in the chain gives you a x1 multiplier. E.g. First link gives you task bonus x 1, second link gives you task bonus x 2, third link gives you task bonus x 3, and so on so forth until the chain is broken.

To make things interesting, there are six (6) different customer types, each with their own unique personality. Some customer types are more patient than others while others tip better than the next. Knowing their patience level is key to managing and serving all the customers.

As each group of customers arrive, they start with a set satisfaction level. Letting them wait too long will cause their satisfaction level to drop. Once it reaches zero (0), they will leave and cost you a big penalty. Satisfaction levels can be influenced by various upgrades to your restaurant as well as quick service. Fail to meet a stage goal and you’ll lose a star (life). Lose all your stars and the game ends. The good news is that you can continue from where you left off.

In the latter mode, Endless Shift, the restaurant never closes. Earn enough points during the progress of the game to move to the next level and purchase upgrades that makes the task easier. The customers will keep coming until you call it quits or lose all your stars, whichever comes first.

Recap of game features:

  • 50 levels of fast paced action
  • 6 different customer types with unique personalities
  • 2 modes of play, Flo’s Career and Endless Shift
  • 4 different restaurant types
  • Restaurant upgrades
  • Unique and challenging gameplay with a simple learning curve

As always, here’s how you can get a little extra playing time. For the recommended downloads, point your browser to Diner Dash Deluxe at Boredworkers’ Game of the Week.

  1. Download both the recommended game and crack files.
  2. Install the game.
  3. Inside the downloaded crack file, there is another zip archive called ‘crack.zip’.
  4. Uncompress crack.zip and replace the ‘dinerres.dll’ file in the folder where you installed Diner Dash with the dll file from crack.zip.
  5. Start the game and have fun.

So now you know how, go ahead and live your dreams through the eyes of Flo. You might just get the inspiration you need to dig yourself out of your own dead end job.
