A friend of mind brought up a very good point two weeks back. Having gone through the trouble to put up a new GotW every week, did I have any plans for a game of the year? I had given it some thought but was still at a lost for words… kinda. The reason being that I didn’t really know how to approach the subject. After giving it even more thought, I decided that I would go ahead and select one of the previously reviewed games and upsize it to GotY. Frankly, that wasn’t as easy as it sounds.

I don’t usually make resolutions. But this year, I shall make an exception… or rather, I am going to make it a habit to make an annual resolution. Set some goals and targets for the year. I need to find direction in life and I think that one way to do so is to set milestones to mark out the path for the coming year.

Well, as the year is coming to a close, I suppose it is time to review what has been achieved and what were the opportunities missed. Thinking back, this year has been an eventful indeed. A year full of accomplishments and setbacks, happiness and misfortune, good times and bad, discovery and loss, events both funny and not so funny. A mixed bag of extremes. Some months were packed with vivid memories while others were merely blurred images. Here’s what I remember most about 2005…

It is now 31st December 2005, 1.03am. That means for the next 22 hours and 57 minutes, it is New Year’s Eve. Have you decided on where you’re going to be this Eve? Have you planned what you’re going to do? Or are you gonna wing it? As for WL and I, we’ll be celebrating New Year’s Eve and ushering in 2006 with some friends in Port Dickson (PD). From what I’ve heard, there are usually some fireworks during New Year.

Christmas has passed and New Year is just around the corner. On the 26th, the world spent a moment in silence, remembering those who perished in the tsunami. But a few days later, the masses will congregate to usher in the new year. The question is, where will you be?

Navin’s (Spyderman. Haha!) back in town. Apparently, he flew in from Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday. Never tell me earlier. Somemore SMS me with his Indonesia number. Anyway, last time he was here (a month back, if I’m not mistaken), I promised that I would bring him out for some nice Nasi Lemak. We set the date for 27th December 2005. Well, guess what, it just came and went, and I kept my promise. I introduced him to this place called Mali’s Corner.

Its been a month since the eGenting Programming Competition (2005) was held in Genting Highlands. No winners have been finalised yet (and even if they were, I couldn’t tell you). Anyway, the point is that the annual public lecture that follows each competition is going to be held on 21st January 2006 followed by the presentation night. For those who are interested (participants and non-participants alike), or just curious, to attend the event, registration is now open.

This morning, WL called and woke me up in the morning to ask a very good question.
“How come a file that is 16GB can be stored on NTFS but when attempting to copy to FAT32, it complains that file is too big?”

‘Tis the season to be jolly and all that. What a better way to while away some time with the family than to play some games, eh? This week’s GotW is a classic family boardgame brought to the computer desktop in all its animated glory. Put your hands together for Scrabble Deluxe by GameHouse.

Yesterday was Boxing day. Instead of going out post Christmas shopping, I spent the day watching Peter Jackson’s 2005 reproduction of King Kong. The movie stayed true to the original (mostly) and was a fairly good remake. However… it was one LONG DRAG of a movie. Granted that it had its moments but I am not afraid to admit that I fell asleep in towards the end of the show. Maybe we should start at the beginning and work our way from there.
