PIKOM PC Fair Today
So it starts today, the PIKOM PC Fair. Its a thrice annually event and for the second time running, it will be held in the new Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC1, NOT to be mistaken with Kuala Lumpur City Centre [also KLCC2] which is where KLCC1 is located). Having been to the last PC fair, I’m quite impressed with KLCC1.
This time around, I don’t have any intentions to purchase anything from the fair. However, I am still going to have a look at the prices and offers available. On top of my scouting list is a new notebook. I intend to buy one soon but don’t have particular preference at the moment. If you have any recommendations, feel free to leave your mark.
Second, as a favour to a colleague, I’ll look out for prices on notebook harddisks and external drive casings. Last PC Fair, WL and I did the same thing for her brother but wound up going back to Low Yatt plaza to make the purchase. When WL bought her external drive, it cost her RM270.00 in total. A year later, the external drive for her brother cost RM305.00 for the exact same spec and casing. So I’m wondering what are the prices like another half year down the line. Has it increased (due to popularity and demand) or decreased (due to cheaper manufacturing costs) in price? From what I’ve heard so far, the cost of a notebook harddrive has increased dramatically.
My colleagues and I will probably head on over during lunch break. So if you’re in the vicinity and you see my ugly mug, give me a holler.

Well, I can help keep an eye out for the thumbdrive, webcam, and mic but the new brain you’re gonna have to ask someone else :D Last I heard, new brains are at a premium. Maybe a used one is more affordable.

Don’t particularly like Acer but yes, DELL looks good. Anyway, I’ll put up what I saw at the fair throughout the course of the day. Read on if you like.

[…] Ok. As promised, I went to PIKOM PC fair during lunch break. The place was crowded as usual. But I managed to scout around for the Notebook prices as I initially intended. There are alot of notebook variations out there. For that reason, I’m only going to list out the ones that caught my eye. Additionally, listing all the different manufacturers at a go will probably be a difficult undertaking. As such, I’ll do a series over the course of the day, going through what each one has to offer and then finally making a brief comparison (if I have the time). To begin with, here’s what I found from Sony: […]
