HITYES.com… Why Promote When Your Site Is Down?

While wandering the halls of PIKOM’s PC Fair, I picked up a number of promotion flyers. Among them was this yellow and blue flyer printed on glossy paper promoting a site, HITYES.com - Online Shopping. Printed in large letterings on the brochure are the catch phrases “We bring the prices down“, “MAD prices everyday“, and across the middle, “click and say YES“. Now this doesn’t give me much information except to tell me that there’s a site called HITYES.com and it facilitates online shopping with ‘mad low’ prices everyday. Turning over the leaflet, there’s a member registration form and a slew of terms and conditions of use. But still no information about the site.

All this has done is to pique my curiosity. That is of course a good thing, as far as promotion and advertisements go. However, pointing my browser to HITYES.com, I am met with dissappointment. Firefox returned me an alert saying “The operation timed out when attempting to contact www.hityes.com“. And so here I am with a heightened sense of curiousity but without any answers to my questions. So now then I have an even bigger question. Why the heck do you go through all the trouble of designing a promotional brochure, hire people to hand them out, probably hire people to sign up members, and basically go through all the motions of marketing when your end product is not even available yet?

Anyway, to sate my curiousity, I did googled the site’s address and finally dug up some details. It is indeed an online shopping site. For the time being, if you really want to know more about the place, you can access google’s cached copy of the site from here. Advice to owners of HITYES.com if you’re reading this… I’m doing you a little service by promoting your site but please do go get yourself a better server!

Put more adsense please, you might manage to end up with more ads than content, like those amazing Pro Bloggers!

I don’t know whether to take that as an insult, a critic, or an encouragement. So I’ll just say “You’re welcome” and be done with it. Cheers.

I visited their site a few months back after seeing an ad in the Star. There was nothing much for sale on the site! And prices at Low Yat seemed more competitive.

Yeah. Their site finally came up and I had another look. Not good. Messy layout, and the prices are not very competitive. They DIDN’T bring the price down as claimed.
