Blackout!

For the umpteenth time this year, my house has experienced a blackout (and that’s not counting the infinite number of brownouts in between!). I now have TNB’s complaint line on speed-dial (for those of you who don’t know it, its 15454. Take note of it, you may need it). The best part about the blackout is that it doesn’t affect everyone in the neighbourhood. Oh, no. It only affects 7 houses in a row, starting from the 6th house from the end of the street. Now that’s some odd shit if you ask me.

For one thing, how does Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB, Malaysia’s sole provider of electricity) manage to screw it up so badly that these few houses have to experience roughly 2 blackouts every month? What is so wrong with their network and service? Is the blackout caused by some fool, overloading the switch somewhere or just some dumb idiot of an engineering tripping over the cable?

The second thing is why is it that only 7 houses in the whole neighbourhood are affected? What happened to the rest of them? I know for a fact that we have at least 3 sets of power lines in the neighbourhood but how did they mess up the cabling so badly? You would expect that they would hook up houses that are in the same row or vicinity to the same set of lines. How did they manage to put these 7 houses in a freaking black hole?

Now I wouldn’t be so pissed had I not been in the middle of something. Them taking 2 hours to flip the switch back on and getting everything back in order doesn’t help either. And to think that they are actually contemplating increasing the electricity tariffs for 2006! And all those advertisements I’ve been seeing about not being able to rock without electricity and all that. Yeah, they definitely rox my sox. Fortunately I had my trusty GameBoy to keep me company. Talk about a wasted evening.
