Malacca …….. One Night Only !!!
Charmaine and I was in Malacca last week for an overnight trip since the both of us was on leave for the week.
Hotel Puri….. A Boutique with Elegance
We stayed at this Hotel Puri, a boutique hotel located on Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Tun Tan Cheng Lock used to stay on the same road, No 111), just behind Joncker Street. We stayed in the standard room at a price of RM126.50 which comes with two single bed and buffet breakfast for two. The hotel is a carefully restored Peranakan house which once belonged to the decendants of an eminent philanthropist and rubber plantation owner Tan Kim Seng. I really love the hotel especially its over inner courtyard where it used to be a stable for Tan Kim Seng’s horses. I highly recommend this hotel to those who are going to Malacca as it is very convienient as there are abundant of restaurants and cafes around the area, historical site just a few minutes walk away and most importantly to experience a stay in the Peranakan House.
These photos are actually taken inside the hotel!
FOOD FOOD FOOD GALORE !!!!!
Hainanese Chicken Rice Balls
We ate various varieties of food….first we went for the Melaka specialty….famous chicken rice ball that everybody has been talking about…we went to the Farmosa Chicken Rice Ball which is situated on Jonker’s Street…. Each chicken rice ball cost 30 cents!!…We ordered the roasted chicken, roasted bbq pork and a plate of taugeh( Shannon’s favourite)….the whole meal costed both of us RM26….
Nyonya Cendol
Next we went for the nyonya chendol for dessert….There are few stalls selling this chendol along Jonker Street but we saw this particular shop across from Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Shop which was packed with people…I don’t usually take chendol but since there were so many people lining up for it, I decided to give it a go…. This traditional Nyonya chendol is made of homemade jade-green cendol that is absolutely creamy with loads of conunut milk and ‘gula melaka’….

Satay Celup
We had satay celup or ’satay steamboat’ for dinner which only found in Malacca… There are various satay celup shops in Malacca which serves satay celup… Shannon brought me to this shop on Jalan Ong Kim Wee where most of the locals go (I can’t remember the name of the shop. There are two shops next to each other. The one which is packed with people)….you would be surprise even on a weekday, the shop is crowded… i love the sauce..thick creamy peanut sauce….yuummmm… don’t ask me whether do they change the pot of sauce after each customer….just eat…. the price of each stick varies from RM0.40 to RM1.50 which i think is very reasonable…the whole meal cost us RM16..
Add: Jalan Ong Kim Wee
Opens: 5.30pm until 12.30am
Peranakan Food
We had peranakan food (nyonya food) for lunch the next day. We went to Nancy’s Kitchen which was recommended by the hotel reception staff. The restaurant is family owned and it was bustling with customers when we were there. We had the Chicken Candlenut which was recommended by the owner, Chinchaluk egg, Belacan Fried Four Angled Beans and a Nyonya Popiah. The Nyonya Popiah was really huge and full of pork lard…… YUMMMMM ….. the chicken was quite good…. a little spicy….. Shannon said all the food tastes like Chinese food…. hehe…. anyway the whole meal only cost about RM 30….. not bad huh……
Add : Jalan Hang Lekir (near Jonker’s Street)
Opens only for lunch and closes by 6.00 pm.
Overall the trip was loads of fun… we spent a lot of time walking around Jonker’s Street…. we had fun taking loads of photos… you can check out the photos on this website …. I’ve done a slide show of the trip. Unfortunately it is only viewable if I send you an invitation… so if you want to see it, drop me (Charmaine) a msg and I’ll send you an invitation…..
The only disappointing thing about this trip is there’s no night life durng the weekdays… the whole street was really really quiet… no cafes were open except for the coconut cafe near our hotel… so disappointing… apparently all the shops remains open at night during the weekend… so if you are planning to go to Malacca, do it and stay over the weekend…..
This whole blog was written by zcharmaine, I just added the occasional photos here and there and posted it.

Actually, if you want to experience the nightlife in Malacca, try asking a local friend to bring you to Taman Melaka Raya. There are loads of cafes and pubs there. Also, you could try Restoran Kota Laksamana at Taman Kota Laksamana (duh). It’s like one big mamak restaurant. Nothing really compared to KL, but we simple folks are easily satisfied.
Oh yeah, for dinner try out Newton Food Court at Ujong Pasir. It’s like a 5 minute drive from Mahkota Parade.
Malacca is indeed boring to a certain extent. I’ve been staying here for years and I can’t think of a great place to hang out!

tangkak? no need to drive to tangkak for the beef noodles. there’s a branch in taman melaka raya. anyways, the road to tangkak from melaka is a bit dark and unsafe.

You’re referring to the Taiwanese Beef noodles in town? That’s the only one I know of in Melaka. The one that also serves deep fried pork ribs. Yum!
