Restoran Makanan Sin Wah (Bak Kut Teh)
WL and I had initially planned to go to gym today followed by a movie at KLCC. However, since we were a little pressed for time, we decided to go to gym, forego the movie. Instead, we headed out to Jalan Cheras for some Bak Kut Teh (henceforth known as BKT).
We’ve frequented Restoran Makanan Sin Wah (or translated to English: Sin Wah Food Restaurant) on several occasions before. IMHO, BKT is one of the best dishes to have on a rainy day. Now for those who don’t know, BKT is a chinese dish consisting pork (actually, various parts of the pig, including the ribs, the fatty bits, and spareparts such as pig’s intestines) cooked in a herbal soup and served in a claypot. Sin Wah, serves one of the better BKTs in KL (Klang BKT is overrated…).
We arrive at 9.45pm. Just in time as the place closes at 10.00pm. It used to close on Wednesday, but they’ve since changed their schedule to close on Mondays. Luckily for us, they were open today since it was a public holiday (they opened on Christmas too!). Typical chinese restaurant must open during public holiday cause that’s the best time for business ;)
We ordered BKT for two persons (RM7.50 per person), Yau Ja Guai (RM1.00 per bowl), Tau Fu Kok (RM2.00 per bowl), two bowls of rice (RM0.80 per bowl), and a pot of chinese tea (RM1.00 per person). We decided against an extra side dish of vegetables (which we usually order) since it was late and we didn’t want to eat too much. Aside from the standard BKT, the restaurant is also famous for some of its signature dishes (or so I heard), such as steamed fish and fried vegetables.
Anyway, it was a good thing that we didn’t call for any extras as the BKT serving for two persons was quite alot. Since they were closing shop and they didn’t have many customers that day, the soup was slightly thicker than usual, which is a good thing. However, I do suggest against going too early or too late on a normal day, since they might water down the broth when they first open and as they are about to close. I wasn’t too happy though that they did not add any vegetables into the BKT (which they normally do… hence our decision not to order vegetables). WL didn’t like the tau fu kok (I don’t know why. I found them delicious after soaking them and the yau jar guai in the herbal soup).
30 minutes later, we had somehow managed to eat our way through the whole pot of BKT and side orders. We didn’t request for any extra soup this time (which again, we usually do) since they seemed to be in a rush to close. The bill was RM21.60 for two persons in total. Not too pricey (although there are cheaper places for BKT).
The restaurant opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you’re ever in the area, I do recommend the place (Two thumbs up).

What do you know!
What a coincidence!
I forget to go there, despite of a CityView apartment residence.
My address is Batu 2 1/2, Jalan Cheras too.
