Seoul OK Korean Restaurant
Lunch today was Korean. We headed over to Seoul OK, located at Life Centre, about 5 minutes walk down the road from Wisma Genting. The last time we had our lunch at the Korean restaurant was half a year ago. They have increased the price since then (probably due to inflation caused by rising petrol prices).
The restaurant serves both alacarte and set lunch. Ala carte prices are a little on the high side but the set lunch is one of the cheaper ones in the Kuala Lumpur area. The set lunch comes in four varieties, namely fish, cuttle fish, chicken, and beef. There were nine of people including myself, and 6 of us had chicken while the rest chose beef. A few of my colleagues wanted to try the cuttle fish but they were out of stock. I had the beef.
Lunch sets includes tea (hot or cold). This is a plus since there are some Korean places that do not include tea with lunch sets, instead charging RM5.00 per person! The lunch tray comes with the main course, 5 varieties of kimchi and fried vegetables, fried egg sunny side up, soup, a bowl of rice, and a slice of winter melon and watermelon each. Since I don’t particularly like the spicy and sour kimchi, I asked them to exchange it for the fried anchovies (ikan bilis) which they willingly oblidged. My main course was the standard Korean style stewed beef. The sauce was a sweet as expected. Personally, I don’t really like sweet dishes. Nonetheless, the beef was tender and tasty, going well with the rest of the tray.
I’ve never figured out how to use those Korean chopsticks. Since I am not particularly dexterous with the normal chopsticks, those flat Korean ones become impossible to wield. It was a good thing that they provided spoons, else I would never have finished my meal. Enrii got finger cramps from using those damned tools of torture. Haha.
Overall, I enjoyed the meal. The service was brisk and good. Probably because it wasn’t during peak hour, since the restaurant was quite empty. The price is reasonable for the serving. The lunch sets cost RM12.50 nett (inclusive of taxes). Although they increased the price (previously RM9.90 nett), they have also thrown in an egg and increased the portions to justify the price hike (unlike some places where they increase the price and reduce the portions!). My friend commented that the side dishes were Malaysianised versions of Kimchi and didn’t taste as nice as the real ones. Since I don’t like Kimchi to begin with, I rather enjoyed the Malaysianised version. At least it didn’t give me stomach cramps (good thing I swapped away that red spicy sour smelly Kimchi).
I recommend it if you like Korean. Personally, I don’t mind the place since it isn’t too expensive.

If you haven’t tried korean food before, I recommend you to use the spoon, not the stupid thin and heavy chopsticks.
Btw, I suppose that’s a honeydew, rather than a winter melon.
