Burger King: Greek Lamb Sandwich

Saw the Greek Lamb Sandwich (GLS) banner at Burger King (BK) last week and was curious about it. A lamb burger (don’t mistake with Lampe Berger, haha), now that’s something you don’t see everyday. Anyway, I dropped by BK yesterday and ordered one to share with WL.

The GLS is a 7″ long sandwich consisting of a large slice of charbroiled lamb, lettuce, onions, and mayonnaise on a elongated burger bun. You have a choice of alacarte or set. The set is served together with crisp cut fries and blackcurrant drink. It comes in two sizes, medium going for RM10.80 and large at RM11.80. The sandwich on its own costs RM6.90. Prices are subject to a 5% government tax. I ordered the large meal which set me back RM12.39 in total.

The drink and crisp cut fries that comes with the meal is the standard fair that you may get with other meals. As such, I’ll just skip them and focus on the GLS instead. I found the GLS to be a tad on the dry side. Although the mayo topping compliments the taste of the meat, it leaves much to be desired. Together with the onions, lettuce, and mayo condiments, the GLS also lacked colour. It was white on light green on light green on dark brown on light brown. There were no red tomatoes, or dark green pickles, or yellow cheese and mustard.

Maybe they were hoping to ride on the taste of the lamb alone but unfortunately, it was sorely lacking. Granted that the meat was tender and juicy, but it lacked the taste that I’ve come to expect from BK. The fact that it didn’t taste or smell like lamb did not help the matter. I’m a fan of lamb (and so is WL), but I found it really difficult to identify the slab of meat that was sandwiched between the buns.

The saving grace for the meal was the crisp cut fries and the blackcurrant drink. The fries were hot and fresh. Unfortunately, you only get a few slices (I counted 8 in my large). And although the sandwich and lives up to its claimed 7″, I still don’t think that it justifies the pricetag. For the same price, I can get the Whopper meal which is a lot more satisfying. My advice, stick with the old meals unless you want to try something different.
