Yesterday morning, I got a call from a colleague asking a favour to switchover a server. I decided to help him out one last time before I left. Besides, it was time for me to clear out my desk and remove my belongings from the office. I had done my packing a few days earlier. After the dust had settled, I was left with a single box full of miscellaneous items and a dustbin full of waste.

When I started cleaning out my desk, little did I imagine that three years of my working life would be condensed down to a bin full of rubbish and a box of takeaways. It is kind of disappointing and depressing when you look at it that way. The good news, I suppose, was that I didn’t need to do any heavy lifting to transfer my belongings to my getaway car parked downstairs.

Half the box of take homes consisted of old bills, pay slips, leave forms, and other personal documents that I had left in the office. There was also a KFC mini bucket full of money that had accumulated over the years. There must have been at least RM150.00+ in the box, judging by the weight and the jingle. Some serious money, all things considered. Aside from that, there was little else to take away with me.

After cleaning up, I took this one last photo of my office space as a momento. It looks so different from what it used to look like when I was still occupying it. I hope it serves its next occupant as well as it has me. But then again, I heard that my colleagues are going to shift office space soon (some time next month), so its not going to be there long. Well, I’d be dishonest if I said I wasn’t going to miss the place, the job, and most importantly my colleagues.
