Passionate Techies, Read Dis
Hi, if you are an IT person, maybe this post is for you. I was quite excited when I found a great article (warning: it’s rather long, but if you’re passionate about technology, maybe it won’t be) about a guy who identified a gap between sysadmins and programmers and developed a way to bridge them.
He also described the best environment to do large-scale Java development: in a Solaris environment. The reason (other than Java running very optimised on Solaris) is that Sun Microsystem’s solid OS has the awesome Dtrace (this link is a to a Macromedia Flash webcast, so turn up your speakers and brace yourselves for a thick Indian accent) tools to help monitor processes, a feature which is hard to find on other OS’s. I have yet to use Dtrace (or OpenSolaris for that matter) but I thought if anyone of you is passionate about enterprise/uber-large Java application development, such as the MAS Travel Fair 2006 website, perhaps this post is for you :).
