Blogs Of The Day Alpha Testing
I figure that Andy Skelton won’t mind the publicity…
Since its launch in 2005, Wordpress (WP) bloggers have been pinging and making use of the service provided by Blogs Of The Day (BotD). Unfortunately, the WP blog popularity contest was hit with some server problems a couple of months back. Well, the good news is that Andy Skelton, the original author of the popular WP plugin/service is making an effort to revive the site. BotD is now into alpha testing!
WP users, both old and new, who have benefited from the old service but can’t help out in a monetary fashion, now is your chance to return the favour. Point your browsers to BotD for more details on the state of the service, what’s new and hot, and how you may help out in alpha testing. On the other hand, if you CAN and DO want to make a monetary contribution, you can also get details at the site.
A note of warning though. Since the plugin is in its alpha state, it might just die on you. Please only participate if you think you can handle the stress that may come with an unstable WP plugin. Otherwise, just send the good man some love mail, cookies, and perhaps some monies to line BotD’s coffers with.

blogsoftheday creates too many database update operations each time a page is accessed. it was a nightmare for my server which ran SQL replication to a remote SQL server for redundancy. imagine the size of the binary logs filled with all those update statements.

Yeah, it does do quite a number of those. However, I’ve never generated enough traffic to feel it as badly as you do. Lol. I kinda like the guy, so I’ll just support him for abit ;)
