Option number two to get to the LCCT is to use a combination of the Express Rail Link (ERL) to get to KLIA, and from there, catch a shuttle bus to LCCT. While this isn’t exactly a very cost effective option, its an option nonetheless. I include it here for its novelty. Those who have never been on the ERL before might like to take the opportunity to try it out, especially when their flight arrivals or departures are scheduled for midday and they have plenty of time to spend catching trains and transits. It is not recommended if you’re on a tight schedule.

KLIA Express Rail Link (ERL)
The first leg of the journey (if you’re coming from KL) involves taking the KLIA ERL. Now this is an interesting one. There are actually two different types of ERL transfers available. The first is the KLIA Ekpsres which is a direct express transfer without any stops in between. The second is KLIA Transit, while travelling along the same track, makes three stops at Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya/Cyberjaya, and Salak Tinggi. Do double check the ticket that you are purchasing and the train that you get on if you decide on this means of transport.

KLIA Ekspres is straightforward enough since it doesn’t make any stops. One way tickets cost RM35.00 per person and the entire journey takes all of 28 minutes (Thanks to Rian Maelzer for pointing this out). This is by far the fastest means to get to KLIA. However, to get to LCCT, you’ll have to switchover to the shuttle bus. This doubles the time taken to arrive at LCCT, which is unfortunate as you no longer have the advantage of a quick transfer to the airport. This makes KLIA Ekspres an uneconomical and illogical choice.

On the other hand, KLIA Transit offers some options to shave off some of the cost. The pivot point are the Putrajaya/Cyberjaya and Salak Tinggi stations. Getting off at either stations during your journey, burning 30 minutes, and hopping on the next train to come by will save you some spare change depending on where you’re coming from. If you’re going end to end, you’ll skim a good RM19.30 off the full fare.

But this is not very convenient since you have to physically get off the train and purchase the tickets from the counter at the respective stations. However, if you have time to spare and would like to do some sight seeing on the side at the station locations, then this will be the way to go.

Shuttle Bus Service Between KLIA - LCCT
Since LCCT is located about 20km away from the Main Terminal Building (MTB) at KLIA and people flying into KLIA may need to catch a transit flight from LCCT, a new shuttle bus service was introduced to link the two locations. The shuttle bus journey between KLIA and LCCT takes approximately 22 minutes to complete.
