Long Weekend And Sleepy Monday

It’s Monday today. The weekend’s just over and for some reason, I’m still feeling like crap. My biological clock is all out of synch and I’m having trouble trying to concentrate on the task at hand… namely work. There’s going to be that weekly team meeting rubbish tomorrow and I’m going to wind up telling everyone that there’s no change in status.

Freaky Friday
I think all this started when I woke up early on Friday to submit my tax forms. The ol’ engine was up and running at 5.30am. Damnit! I haven’t been up this early since my high school days when I had to catch them ugly yellow buses. The tax office was fairly empty when I walked in with WL at 8.30am after a quick breakfast. They are supposed to be open at 8.00am but some of the staff were just arriving as we were leaving.

While we were there, we had a quick chat with the tax officer about e-Filing and I took the opportunity to ask about that underaged IC holder thing. As it turns out, it only happens when you’re using Mozilla Firefox. I’m actually quite impressed that they know their shit and gave me a straight answer. The e-Filing site is best viewed with Internet Explorer (IE) 6 and above. Its a pity that they don’t support the better browsers.

I was sleepy and cranky all day after that early morning fiasco. I decided to call it a day early and headed home for some sleep. Some friends woke me up later that night around 10.00pm to ask about our Saturday outing and where to meet. I was kinda zoned out and had problems thinking up a good spot. My bad. But hey, its to be expected when you wake me up from sleep and ruined a perfectly good dream. I was kinda wide awake after that so I had me a DotA session for an hour or so. Poor noob me got my ass pwnd.

Anyway, it was obvious that I was cranky the whole day and I apologise to those who bore the brunt of it. Especially that poor sod in DotA that I kept gunning for.

Quirky Saturday
Saturday started out slightly better. I slept till 11.00am when WL gave me a wake up call. We were supposed to meet up with some good buddies for lunch at 12.30pm before heading out to catch ROJAK!. I was kinda dreading the long drive that I knew was ahead of me. Little did I know just how long it was going to be.

It was 30 minutes through bearable traffic to WL’s place. I think everyone was heading into town for the PIKOM PC Fair. I planned to go as well later in the evening. After picking up WL, it was another 30 minutes into town where we waited at Avenue-K for the others. They were late. But that’s alright as it gave me to opportunity to close my eyes for a spell.

Lunch was at this Restoran Kin Kin where they served spicy pan mee. I’ll introduce the place to you at a later post, if someone else hasn’t beaten me to it that is. I promise.

After that, I was the designated pointman to get us to KLPAC. I was still kinda blur and took them on the long scenic route instead of the quick short one. My bad again. After roaming KL for another 30 minutes, we were there. The air conditioned interior was a welcome respite from the afternoon heat. The spicy chili flakes that were making themselves at home in my stomach did not help AT ALL! The theatre performance that was ROJAK! was good. I enjoyed myself. Thanks and kudos to the team for making it happen.

At The Fair
Friends and I said our good byes and went our seperate ways. Them to wherever it was they were going while WL and I headed out to KL Convention Centre to see what was hot at the first PIKOM PC Fair of the year.

We spent about two hours wandering mindlessly through the countless displays and booths. The fair was much bigger this time around. Unfortunately, I was not impressed nor as excited about it as I was in November last year. Maybe because I was drained. But more likely because it was the same old crap and I wasn’t in the mood to make comparisons. I saw the same old notebook models and the same lousy prices. Strangely enough, Core Duos were rare and far between. I saw a Core Duo based MacBook Pro but it was bulky and unsightly. Nothing like the sleek looking iBooks of old.

WL made a comment about notebooks. She says that they were trending towards “small and portable, or big bulky large screens”. Both of which are super priced. The small portable ones for their sleek miniaturised technology, and the big bulkies for the supersized performance. The in betweens were either weak entry levels or underspec’ed old stock. I don’t know. I’ll probably put off purchasing a notebook for much later.

On a side note, DELL was selling their Axim 51v for RM1,200+. That’s cheap, all things considered. Everything else was just blah.

For some reason, PC Fairs are starting to move away from computers per se and working towards technology in general. There was quite a number of booths opened by camera shops and manufacturers. There were numerous stations selling the latest handphones, MP3, and MP4 players. There were several publishers around promoting subscriptions to various magazines, such as TIMES, Hardware Mag (HWM), CHIP, PC Mag, et al. And yes, the standard issue Streamyx resellers were out and about like that many porn pushers.

The Long Drive
I thought my day would be over after the PC Fair. However, WL received a call from her sister in Thailand saying that she was on her way home and needed a ride from KL International Airport (KLIA). So we made the trip. But first, it was a detour to Balakong where we had Sweet & Sour Pork, Fried Kai Lan, and rice for dinner. That set me back a good RM20.00 after tax. The lady at the counter miscalculated and tried to charge me RM24.00 but I did the maths. What, did I look that blur that you think you could get away with it?

It was a 45 minute drive afterwards to the airport. The flight was slightly delayed and WL’s sis spent some time shopping at the duty free section. I caught forty winks worth a minute each. It was nearly midnight by the time we left the airport and it would be an hour and a half before I got home to bed.

Lazy Sunday
Sunday was a lazy one for me. I slept till noon and skipped my usual weekend session at the gym with WL. Watching tele and basically bumming around. Now that’s what I call a good relaxing weekend. However, it was over much too soon. I was in bed by 11.00pm. Stranger things have happened, I suppose. Having said that, I’ve made a new resolution to go to bed early. That means before midnight, and preferably before 11. So if you know me and want to contact me, do so before that time cause I’m ignoring calls after.

Sleepy Monday
And that brings us all the way round to today. Although I had a relaxing Sunday and a long good sleep, I still had difficulty getting out of bed today. The alarm sounded at 7.30 and I did my usual toilet routine before crawling back to bed. It was such a cool morning, and the warm sheets felt too good to resist. Next thing I know, it was 10.05 and my mom was calling me to hurry up. SHIT!

I took the Sprint Highway to work. But stupid dazed me took the wrong turning and wound up heading towards KL instead of PJ. To make matters worse, I missed the turning to SS16 after making a Uey and wound up paying an extra dollar at the toll.

Walked into office at 10.50, a good 2 hours 20 minutes later than my official start. I dreamt the night before that I was late to work, was called into the big boss’ office, got my named logged into the big black book, and had to work late to make up the hours. Talk about dejavu, minus the boss and the book. So yeah, this is turning out to be another long and bad day with no sight of it getting any better.
