SPAM
While I have been missing in action for the better part of two weeks, it doesn’t mean that I do not check up on the site now and again to see if anything new has turned up. Boredworkers.com has pretty much kept a low profile in terms of publicity. As such, we have managed to keep SPAM to a bare minimum. As of yesterday evening, there were exactly 46 spam comments, that Akismet has been so kind to catch.
As such, I was quite surprised to find a total of 175 NEW comments in the Spam box. Spamming a site is a wonderful way of growing incoming traffic without too much effort. Heck, you can conjure up a bot to do the spamming if you’re so inclined. Usually the more popular a site becomes, the higher the spam rate. This makes me question the cause behind the sudden influx of Spam on Boredworkers.com since the traffic to the site has actually slacked off recently. While I can’t think of any particular reason why spam is coming in, I do find some of the SPAM quite funny. With some free time on my hands, here are my response to a few of them:
- May we exchange links with your site? [16 counts]
This goes out to all the Phentermine and Ambien pushers out there. I do not exactly hold slimming pills or sedatives in high regard. Slimming pills are problematic and often the bane of the vain while the first word that comes to mind when you say sleeping pills is suicide. But to be fair, I shall consider your requests. Please ingest a handful of each and I’ll spam you the answer tomorrow. - I just don’t have anything to say right now. (insert some obscure links here). [9 counts]
Really now? But didn’t you just say something? - Very good site. Thanks for author! (insert URL using VBscript type [URL]). [6 counts]
Now first off, I’m not giving you an author. So you can take your thanks and keep it where the sun don’t shine. Secondly, the least you could do was to do your homework. Boredworkers.com is not a VB forum. Seeing [URL][/URL] tags in comments is just weird. - Great website! Bookmarked! I am impressed at your work! [18 counts]
Good lord! Get a grip on yourself! I know the site is good but bookmarking it 18 times? o.O - (Insert 30 links to random sites). [13 counts]
Yes, that’s all there was to this particular SPAM. Just a collection of links. If you thought for a moment that it would get through any self respectable SPAM guard, you really must get your head checked.
However, by far the most impressive spam I’ve seen so far is one consisting of 100 random bombastic words strung together to make an incomprehensible essay with links embedded in them. Something that would surely do Mrs. Malaprop proud. And that’s truly amazing to think that someone out there has that much imagination hidden away in that primitive brain of theirs.
Good luck on your spamming. And yes. I love your site too.
