MATTA Fair 2006 - Round 2

Coming soon to Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on 22nd September 2006. The three day event will see the usual jumble of exhibitions and promotions by travel agencies and government tourism boards inviting us to visit the world over.

For the benefit of the curious, MATTA Fair is organised by the Malaysian Assosiation of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA). While the previous fair early in the year was a joint effort with Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA), this time around, MATTA will be going at it on its own.

Unfortunately, their website is down at the moment due to some database error. Well, at least now I know they are using Adobe’s Coldfusion to create and generate the pages for their site.

Anyway, this latest fair is following hot on the heels of their Penang leg. They are expecting a growth of some 20% from their previous MATTA-MITM effort. Seeing the present state of the economy, I wonder if that’s achievable. Tourism seems to be a little weak at the moment, what with the rising fuel costs and surcharges levied by the airlines. Perhaps it’s a good time to travel Malaysia.

The Tourism Board of Malaysia is promoting Visit Malaysia 2007 which is only the third of such efforts, the other two being 1990 and 1994 which were more than a decade ago. This third edition is particularly special as it coincides with Malaysia’s 50th year of independance. It is no doubt set to be a spectacular affair.

With all the great things ahead, plan your holiday, spend wisely, and remember, there’s always next year. With that, I wish you good luck on your bargain hunt. As always, if you find a great bargain, do share it with us.

Not that I know of. Sorry. Take a look at the fair if you’re in town. You never know what you’ll find.
