Birthday Greetings For SCB

It’s been over four months since Lisa (aka SCB) collapsed and went into a coma back in April. She’s been getting better progressively. Her birthday is coming up on 5th September. As a show of support, we would like to invite everyone, friends, fans, readers, acquaintance, relatives and strangers, to lend your voices in wishing her a healthy birthday and speedy recovery.

Bowling…

Had a company event yesterday and bowling was part of the agenda. We grouped up in teams of six consisting of four guys and two gals each. We were each to bowl two games and the highest score wins, obviously. Well, we wound up being short handed since one team member decided not to show and the other had a conference call. So basically, we didn’t have a chance to begin with. But that didn’t mean our team couldn’t bowl for the heck of it.

Haze Or Rain

Well, as I and several other people have mentioned before, the haze is back. While I would sooner have it go away, I really can’t decide which is worse, the haze or rain?

Restoran Kin Kin - Spicy Pan Mee

This one’s for spicy food lovers everywhere. If you’re into burning your innards and peeing acid, then you can’t go wrong with the spicy pan mee (ban mien/board noodles) at Restoran Kin Kin. To get there, go along Jalan Chow Kit. The restaurant is located on the backstreet off Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Take a left turn at Pizza Hut followed by a right. You’ll see a nondescript shop at the end of the road marked by a bright yellow signboard.

Shell Script Nuggets: Mathematic Computations

I’ve been asked on numerous occasions whether we can perform mathematic computations in a Unix command line environment? And how about radix conversions and calculations? The answer to both questions is, YES, using a relatively underutilised Unix tool. Like Windows, Unix systems come equiped with a desktop calculator (dc) utility. dc is a reverse polish calculator that supports unlimited precision arithmetic. Relatively few people know about this handy tool and fewer still take advantage of it. Most rely on the stripped down functionality of the expr command which, unfortunately, only handles round number computations.

Boredworkers.com Upgrade

While the smaller sections of Boredworkers.com were upgraded to Wordpress 2.x when it was first released, the main site still ran on the old WP1.5.2 engine. After putting it off time and again, we have finally moved on. I’ve been tinkering with the plugins and theme these past couple of days to make them 2.x compliant. While I’m confident that nothing’s broken, there may still be some anomalies that have escaped my attention. As such, shoud you find anything that’s not working as it should be, please do drop us a line at bworkers [at] gmail [dot] com.

FOREX: Great Britain Pound

A few of us were having a discussion about the strength of the Pound Sterling over the weekend. I have been keeping loose tabs on the British currency, checking up on it every other week, and it’s been steadily rising through the months. The Monthly Statistical Bulletin for June 2006 published by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) showed a steady growth from RM6.59 on the 1st up to RM6.73 at the month’s close. The same is true of July where it closed around the RM6.85 mark. I haven’t checked the currency in a fortnite but we were speculating that it was probably dropping due to the recent foiled bomb plot at Heathrow and subsequent police probes. It turns out that the reverse is true.

Skip Hop Dance

Did something out of character today that was kinda embarassing. Not the don’t-know-where-to-hide-face sort of embarassment that you get for things like shitting your pants in public but rather one from the shy-shy-what-the-heck-am-I-doing category. I danced in public. To be more specific, the steps class that WL and I attend put on a public show at California Fitness for passersby.
