GotW: Hammer Heads Deluxe

There was some frustration at work last week so I was looking for something to relieve the stress. Good thing I remembered Hammer Heads by Nuclide.

If you’ve ever played the old arcade game where you whack moles/spiders that pop out of holes, you’ll be familiar with this game. In Hammer Heads, digital gnomes have taken over your desktop garden. Smack them on their fragile heads to smash their evil plot and drive them out. Bash over 10 different types of gnomes, get assistance from tons of powerups and bonuses, and ultimately battle the gnome king for supremecy. While there have been many games using the same style of gameplay (Tontie by EyezMaze being a very good example), this one’s special in it’s own rights.

There are some 25 levels to complete, each comprising of two waves. With every level, something new and smashable is introduced. I got up to level 23 before calling it quits. Here’s the list of smashables up to that point. Anyone want to try and fill in the rest?

Lvl Smashable Life Description
1 Stumpy 1 Your average garden gnome
2 Wacky 2 Pesky wench
3 Gold Treasure - Bonus: +10 coins
4 Flippy 2 Invulnerable when he’s wearing the silly bucket
5 Polaroid Camera - Powerup: Save your progress every 5 levels
6 Shiny Shop - Powerup: Stock up
7 Frosty - Powerup: Freeze the gnomes
8 Tricky 1 Bomb in disguise
9 Tower of Gold - Bonus: Earn up to 100 coins
10 Bouncy - Bonus: Bouncing jester worth a stack of gold
11 Ploppy 5+ Inflate his head to pop
12 Clover - Powerup: Lucky…
13 Irony 6 Indestructible… bury him
14 Quack - Bonus: Quacky score
15 Snappy 7 Steals 5 coins
16 Flappy Rabbit - Powerup: Restore 3 health
17 Zippy - Flying gnome that steals some coins
18 Cupid - Powerup: Changes gnomes to hearts
19 Stingy 9 Coins or bombs?
20 Whammy Pills - Powerup: +20 damage
21 Skippy 16 Gnomish Napoleon
22 Wavy the Multimole - Powerup: Score multiplier
23 Stabby 9 Watch out for his pointy fork
24 Yummy! - Powerup: Don’t lose health when miss
25 King Globus 3000 Keep bashing him. He summons minions at fixed intervals.

Additionally, there are two different game modes available. Classic Bash which is the straight forward gnome smashing described above, and Marathon Bash which is a timed endless game where the waves just keep on coming. The latter is locked until you’ve completed at least 10 levels of Classic Bash. Cracking King Globus in classic bash will also unlock the Tough Cookie difficulty level for that mode.

The chance to earn trophies adds a nice touch to the game. For example, smash 100 gnomes for the Gnome Crusher award, or become a Power Player by upgrading to a golden fire hammer. Mind you, some of the trophies are not easy to come by, such as the Master Marksman which requires you not to miss through 10 levels, and the Vow of Poverty where you can’t collect a single coin through 15 levels! Collecting the trophies is half the fun. Have you the skill to collect the ultimate prize of Trophy Master and complete the trophy room collection?

To have a smashing good time, go to Boredworkers.com’s GotW for the recommended downloads.

  • Install the game.
  • Uncompress the keygen archive.
  • Start the game.
  • Run keygen.exe.
  • Click the ‘Generate’ button to generate the license key.
  • Click the ‘Copy’ button to apply the generated key.
  • Continue playing the game.

Good cartoony graphics, good sounds and effects, unique characters with unique identities and animations, trophy room, great gameplay and replayability. What’s not to like about Hammer Heads? Nothing like a good remake of the classics. Bashing stuff was never this much fun!

Tips?
Some random stuff off the top of my head.

  • You start with a default hammer which does 1 damage. There are 3 hammer upgrades available after that, iron, silver and gold, each doing 2, 3 and 6 damage respectively. Upgrade to an iron hammer when you have the chance and save up for the gold hammer. IMHO, You can skip the silver as the extra damage doesn’t help much.
  • Whenever you upgrade the hammer, get the Fire addon to give it a boost of speed. You’ll need it in the later levels.
  • Once you’ve bought the golden hammer, spend your coins on heart containers which add an extra heart to your life.
  • Hearts and coins do a little jig and bounce when they first appear. Be careful that you don’t smash air when that happens.
  • 95% - 97% accuracy will give you an Accuracy Bonus while 98% - 100% will earn you a Double Bonus at the end of every wave.
  • You can get in two taps of the hammer when Flippy first appears before he puts on his nifty bucket.
  • If you’re not particular about coins and don’t want to lose life, bash Stingy while she’s digging in her bag.
  • A miss costs you half a heart while a bomb will drain 1.5 hearts. Mini hearts restore a quarter life while big ones purchased in the store restores 1.5.
  • You can smash the bombs while they are frozen with the Frosty powerup.

The king has 3000 hearts. Keep whacking him until he cracks. The number of hearts left is indicated at the base of the gnome. Pick up the Whammy pill if it appears to help you along. When he summons minions, whack them or risk losing hearts. If you can afford the hearts, then just keep bashing the king.

Hi! I have this game and so far i love it, however I seem to already be stuck and Im just on level 11. The ploppy charactors, even when I hit them 5 times to make them pop, I lose half a heart, or a whole one. Is this what im suppose to do to get rid of them? Thanks in advance!

G: Yes you’re suppose to get rid of them. Just be careful you don’t overhit or miss. Chances are you’re losing hearts because of that. I suggest upgrading your hammer. You don’t have to click as much and with that, less chance of losing life.

A cheat for all of you. Go to the main screen where you can pick your game. Wait about a minute or 2 there will be a little man appear at the bottom of the screen when he jumps up click on him. Now start a NEW game you will have a stronger hammer, 500 coins and an extra health heart.

I am on Marathon Bash now my score so far is 35,666,148 with 30,105 coins and a time of 2 Hours 41 minutes. I only play for about 10-20 minutes a day. To long of streatch and it will wear you out.

So try out the cheat and you will be bashing them in no time.

P.S. I got all the trophys that is what you can do when you have a few minutes a day and the kids are in school.

G: Shh… we don’t want to make it too easy for them ;) Hehe. But coolness that you have all the trophies.

Be careful when you first upgrade your hammer. You will probably be used to having to whack Wacky twice with your ordinary hammer. When you upgrade you only have to hit her once, and it’s easy to forget and whack empty air and score a miss.

G: Yeah. That’s very good advice. There’s a tendency to repeat what you’ve been doing before the upgrade due to muscle memory and reflex.

Hope someone can help I’m not good with games. I can’t get past the Napoleon guy, I think his name is Skippy. Also can someone explain again what the hearts on the bases mean ? Like Skippy has one heart x16 on it. I’m about to give up playing. Thanks for any help with this.

G: The heart at the bottom is the same as your heart. Means you have to hit him X number of times to break it. In the case of Skippy, if he has x16, means you have to hit him 16 times (less if you have upgraded your hammer).
