Bowling…
Had a company event yesterday and bowling was part of the agenda. We grouped up in teams of six consisting of four guys and two gals each. We were each to bowl two games and the highest score wins, obviously. Well, we wound up being short handed since one team member decided not to show and the other had a conference call. So basically, we didn’t have a chance to begin with. But that didn’t mean our team couldn’t bowl for the heck of it.
So there we were, the four of us bowling. And that’s when I found out I suck at it. And that’s the honest truth. It turned out to be a long and dreary affair. So much so that midway through the ordeal, I was silently wishing that I was back in the office watching Bleach (the anime). Maybe it was just me since I was the stranger in the group, but I felt our team was extremely quiet. There was little cheering and hooting and laughing and all that other stuff that usually came together with having a good time.
Among the four of us, one member had a 50% record of hitting the gutter. The other guy was doing pretty well, bowling an average of 140, while the only lady in our team was doing even better. As for me, I managed a 96 on the first game and a 75 on the second. This is worse than the first and only other time I bowled some 7 years ago with some unimates. That time, I managed to break the 100 mark.
As life would have it, I somehow ranked in the top 30 among the 80 odd participants. That means that there are people who suck more at it than I do. HAH! That’s sad for you. Incidently, the top bowler in the company averaged 200 per game. Pretty decent if you asked me.
At any rate, my arm feels like putty, and my thumb is sore from the abuse. I think I’ll abstain from bowling and stick to safer sports. Like rugby maybe. Tata.
