Download YouTube Videos
YouTube’s a major buzz that’s going on in the world of cyberspace. It is slowly becoming the defacto medium for sharing videos on the Internet. It is probably the greatest cause for unproductiveness since Instant Messaging (IM). The service allows users to upload and share videos. Their audience then stream the videos on demand.
Recently, a friend of mine asked a very good question. Can we download the videos from YouTube?
Reasons for wanting to download a video may vary. It could be that you have a slow connection and video streaming is akin to watching paint dry. Or perhaps you simply want a copy of the video for your archives. YouTube has recently been rejecting videos and kicking them off their service, so keeping a copy of your favourite videos isn’t such a bad idea.
Whatever your reasons, there is a way for getting your hands on a copy of videos shared via YouTube (and everywhere else for that matter). Here’s how:
- Point your browser to KeepVid.com
- Copy the link of the YouTube video that you would like to download (e.g. http://youtube.com/watch?v=6B26asyGKDo)
- Paste the URL to the textbox provided on the page
- Select ‘Youtube’ from the pull down list next to the textbox
- Click download and wait for the next page to load
- Use the download link provided to save the video you want
In order to view videos downloaded from YouTube in this manner, you’ll need a Flash Video (.flv) player. A free flv player is available from Applican Technologies.
Having said that, YouTube is not the only kid on the block. There are other video hosting providers out there such as Google Video, Break.com, and iFilm. And that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Keepvid.com supports video ripping from all these sites and more.
So now you know how to rip videos from the web and keep all your favourites with you. Happy viewing.

There is an easier way. Just install VideoDownLoader to your Firefox. Click on the shortcut button when you’re browsing your youtube. A window will pop-up with a link. Just download straight from the link.

YouTube will disappear, just like Napster, because all the copyright holders like recording companies will sue the pants off them. You see, the You Tube stuff contains lotsa copyrighted music videos and the like and in the USA (YouTube is American after all) it’s not easy to just say in the courts, “Hey, I’m not responsible for my clients’ content,” — not easy at all.

Hey guys,
I have an iMac G5 running tiger 10.4.7 and I an having a wierd problem. Whenever I go to a site that has an embedded youtube, flash or some kind of video, there is no sound. If it a quicktime file there is no problem. There is not sound no matter what broswer I use, firefox, camino, safari, or shiira. And keep in mind that about a week ago I was not having this issue.
Help Would be awesome
Thanks!
G: That’s really strange. Did you install something new? Or perhaps you have the mute turned on :)
