fiftynineminutes
A friend of mine has been dropping hints about a new play collection by The Oral Stage (TOS) entitled fiftynineminutes. Very subtle brainwashing on his part. As a result of his manipulative ways, I’ve become curious as to what the good kids (well, mostly kids) at TOS have in store for their audience. An earlier production of theirs, Rojak, was very enjoyable.

fiftynineminutes is a collection of seven shorts lasting exactly 59 minutes. That’s roughly 8.4285714285714285714285714285714 minutes each. Anymore and you can go sue them for false advertising. According to the postcard promo, the plays and monologues cover the following plots (stolen word for word):
- Two friends discover faith, direction and the truth.
- An actress whom we all like to hate.
- A bitter past haunts a bitterer couple.
- A girl finds beauty in ugliness.
- A man and a woman make love over dinner.
- A fellow Malaysian makes the country proud.
- A group of roommates bring back the dead.

The performance will be staged at their home studio, making it possible for them to lower the entrance fee to a token sum of RM10.00. That is really cheap for 59 minutes of good fun and entertainment. Therefore, being broke is not an excuse for not going. I’m sure you can beg, borrow, or steal RM10.00 from somewhere.
But in case you’re really pitiful and can’t scrape together such a pitance, I’ll be sponsoring a pair of tickets. Just leave a comment stating why you can’t afford the tickets and should be made the beneficiary of charity. The best original excuse wins two tickets. The date of the tickets is yet to be decided. It will probably be for the preview show on 27th September 2006, so you’ll be able to catch it before anyone else. Stay tuned for more details.
In any case, you shouldn’t miss this opportunity to catch a lively performance and show support for Malaysia’s performing arts. Be there.
