$#@&^*~% Carpark

Got to the office at the usual time today, around 10.30am. Flashed my season parking pass at the entry gate to the Uptown basement carpark and drove in. My usual practice is to drive straight down to basement 3 since the higher levels are usually full. Down, down, down, I went. WHAT? Carpark FULL!

Sat around for about 30 minutes before getting fed up and drove out to talk to the carpark management. As I was exiting the carpark, there were visitors leaving the carpark in front of me. I overheard some of them complain about the lack of space. Apparently, Uptown carpark practices a ‘no passing through’ policy and they had to pay up although they didn’t get a spot or use the facility.

When I called the management, they had no idea that the carpark was full. I talked with two persons, a lady named Wan (I think that’s the spelling), and a guy named Thomas. They told me that they hadn’t received any complaints of insufficient parking bays. What did they think I was doing? Picking daisies from the sidewalk. I am filing a damn complaint. I told them about the predicament and that season parking should have precedence over visitors. The next question I posed to them was where I should park. Thomas’ suggestion was that I wait around in the basement for someone to make an exit. WTH? I just waited for 30 minutes!

Anyway, they said that they would send someone over to take a look. The normal practice would be to close the carpark to visitor entries (like what they did when they had a warehouse sale in the building a few months back). I went back into the carpark and found me a spot. Got lucky when a visitor decided that his business was done and left the building.

The point is that the management should have been on top of the matter. I’m sure that they keep tabs of the number of bays available, the number of visitors who have entered, the number of people holding season parking, and the number of season parking entries. It isn’t rocket science to figure out how many bays are open to visitor parking, taking into account perhaps 80% season parking utilisation (20% for those who go in and out of the office). Assuming that they have all the numbers, why is it that they weren’t aware of the overflow?

I met a colleague in the lobby who had trouble finding parking as well. His observation was that the Uptown management were simply out to make a quick buck by filling all the bays. To be frank, I don’t disagree with him. Whether or not that is the truth is besides the point. The fact of the matter is that is the impression that they are giving off to everyone in general, especially those who had to pay for passing through.

If you couldn’t find a parking spot, file a complaint damnit! Force those capitalist scums to take action. Here’s the address and telephone number for you so you’ve got no excuse:

Damansara Uptown Car Parks Sdn. Bhd.
1201D, Level 12 Tower D, Uptwon 5,
No 5 Jalan SS21/38 Damansara Uptown,
47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan.

Malaysians being Malaysians often stand by and let it happen because they do not want to go through the hassle. They prefer to leave it to others to take up the protest. Did you ever stop to think that if everyone did that, there would be no change or improvement?

A parting word to visitors coming into Uptown. $#@&^*~%!!! GET OUT! Stop coming in, stealing my carpark, and just bloody screwing up my day. DANGNAMIT!
