Happy Deepavali and Selamat Hari Raya
It’s still a couple days away but already, the office is starting to look like a ghost town with tumbleweed and dust bunnies swirling in the wind. On top of those who celebrate Deepavali and Hari Raya, quite a number of people have also taken the coming days off in order to take advantage of the double holiday and make a long break out of it. The fact that my company has taken up the government’s call to declare monday (23rd October) a holiday simply gives more leeway in terms of annual leave utilisation.
While many are in the festive mood, I’m chest deep in deadlines and slowly floundering. That probably explains the reason why I haven’t been reading and writing as much as I usually do. Back issues of newspapers and magazines have been piling up on my office desk and I’m barely keeping pace with my online subscriptions.
I watched Devil Wears Prada last weekend and curiously enough, they were saying that when your life’s a mess, it’s a good indication that you’re getting ahead in your job. And when your life explodes, it’s time for a promotion. My social and private life’s still pretty much stable so I guess that promotion’s still light years away. But enough small talk.
With the coming balik kampung exodus, please do drive safely and responsibly. 18 deaths have already been reported one day into Ops Sikap XI. If you’re tempted to break a traffic rule, think first about your loved ones, the people in the vehicles around you, and their loved ones. Don’t turn yourself into a statistic.
Having said that, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone who’s celebrating a Happy Deepavali. To muslims everywhere Selamat Hari Raya. Have a wonderful week ahead.
