Pizza Hut - Not As Advertised

Have you tried the new 4-in-1 Pizza by Pizza Hut (Malaysia)? It is basically a square pizza that’s divided into four sections, each with a different topping. The flavours are:

  • Hawaiian Chicken,
  • Masala Chicken,
  • Satay Supreme, and
  • Island Supreme.

I’ve tried it on different occasions, both the More To Share combos. If you ask me, the second combo is the better choice. But then again, the 4-in-1 Pizza isn’t exactly as great as it should be to begin with.

Firstly, the topping choices are fixed. That means you don’t really actually get a choice. The four flavours are forced upon you whether you like them or not. For that reason alone, it would be better to order a combo meal #5 which includes two regular pizzas for the same price (RM39.90). You can then upsize the pizzas to Splitzzas which is a combination of ANY two Supreme or Family Favourite toppings. You still get the 4 flavours but now you actually have a choice.

Having said that, the 4-in-1 Pizza combos aren’t quite as advertised either. If you ever happen to order the More To Share Combo 1, don’t be surprised when they serve you the Criss Cut Fries. The labeling on the advertisement states: 1 Criss Cut Fries with Tomato Sauce and the picture shows a large oval plate with 7 or 8 slices of fries neatly arranged with garnish. Well, you’re not going to get that nifty bowl of Heinz tomato sauce or that large a serving. Instead, you’ll get an oil stained round plate with four miserable pieces of fries and a bottle of ketchup to go with it. The serving in the picture is at least double the actual portion.

When I quizzed the manager about the serving size, he explained to me that the serving size was correct and that they went by weight. The serving weight (if I remember correctly) was 150 grams. WTH?! In that case, they should clearly spell it out in the advertisement. 1 serving of Criss Cut Fries (150g). At least that way, when the serving comes, the customer won’t feel shortchanged or cheated. And it’s great if you’re on a diet and want to calculate your calorie intake. But then again, such advertising would probably not draw many customers. So I guess a bluff when compared to diminishing profits is the lesser of two evils.

Check out the Tower of Criss Cut Fries. I heard the view from the top is breathtaking.
