A Good Deed And Falling Sick

Have you ever considered donating blood? There was a blood drive yesterday held by Fedex at my office block yesterday. Being a frequent donor, I took the opportunity to do my civic duty. It’s been about half a year since I did it. If you’ve never done it before, I recommend it.

Technically speaking, donating blood is actually good for your health. Or so my doctor says. It take approximately 120 days for your body to completely replace all the blood in your system. He tells me that drawing a pint of blood from your body forces your system to renew itself. It also has the added advantage of drawing out toxins from your body that would otherwise have to be processed by your liver and excreted via sweat and urea.

Very fascinating and all. Unfortunately for me, this marks the first time I fell sick after a donation. Under normal circumstances, I’ll usually feel lethargic for an hour or two after the process. The energy drain doesn’t last very long. One time I went out for a four hour basketball session immediately after making the donation. Call me bullish.

Because of my size, people rarely believe me when I tell them I’m sick. It seems impossible to them that someone as big as I am could ever fall sick. Truth is, I just have a higher tolerance level. I usually ignore the minor ailments and just work through them. Usually when I say I’m feeling sick, chances are, I’m about to collapse.

Well, can’t say that I enjoy the feeling. I’m now down with a slight fever and there’s a dull ache throughout. Hopefully, two Panadols and a good night’s sleep will clear things up. Cheers.
