PPP: You Got Paid
It’s been about a month since I started on this whole PayPerPost
affair. It’s been interesting. I don’t do much of it at the moment, maybe a post for PPP every other day. And only ever on things that I myself would have explored on my own and found interesting. Thankfully, there’s still more personal stuff than PPP. While the money is good, I would rather not have this space taken over by advertorials.
Was looking at the PPP dashboard today and noticed that something was different. Have been paid: 10.00. Interesting. A check on Paypal shows that I have indeed been paid! Cool. There’s another hundred dollars or so trickling in over the next few weeks.
And then I realised something. I’m going to have to keep checking up on PayPal to accept these damned payments. I really wish that PPP would implement a monthly payment scheme instead of handing out payments four weeks after a post has been approved (or something to that extent). It would be a lot more convenient.
One problem with PayPal is that I can’t really withdraw the money since I haven’t added a bank account. PayPal only supports US bank accounts. So for all practical purposes, it is electronic money that I can use online but will never see physically. But hey, money is money, right? I can still use it for internet transactions.
I’m getting married towards the end of 2007. With that in mind, I’ve decided to see if PPP earnings can’t pay for part of my wedding. For example, it could go a long way in purchasing wedding favours, wines, invitation cards, wedding bands, etc. The possibilities are endless. Not a bad way to go about spending the extra stash methinks. Anyway, that’s a plan for the future. We’ll see how things go when the time comes.
Back to PPP and some general updates. Logging in today, I noticed that they’ve finally gotten rid of that silly CAPTCHA validation thingy. It was a really annoying feature.
PPP has been busy working on their publicity and visibility. The way they are going about this is interesting. They’ve got an online reality tv series going on. Incidentally, RockStartup is topped Technorati’s most searched keyword overnight. This is in part due to their promotion campaign. They’ve got a nifty ongoing puzzle hunt related to RockStartup with a USD1000.00 reward.
The downside to all this new publicity is that their site has gotten REALLY VERY SLOW. It’s crawling and takes ages to load. Made worse, no doubt, by our ‘best effort’ broadband. The web interface is weighed down by heavy overheads that do nothing more than prettify the presentation. Not that I have anything against a good looking dashboard but when it takes more than a minute to completely load, something’s definitely wrong somewhere.
Enought talk. I’ve had several long days in the office and really need to get some sleep. Cheers.
