Ambank - Kuala Lumpur International Marathon 2007
I am participating in the Ambank - Kuala Lumpur International Marathon 2007 (KLIM). Stranger things have happened, I’m sure.
It wasn’t a challenge or anything like that. I just received an email one fine afternoon after lunch and decided to submit the form on a whim. I was seriously thinking of putting a check mark next to the full marathon for the heck of it. Then sanity struck and I realised (not a moment too soon) what I was getting myself into. I settled for the 10km fun run instead, or what my colleagues are fondly calling the wimp category. I’m not alone, the KL office is sending several teams of wimps :)
Anyway, for those who are interested in the event, here are the details for you.

There are over RM300,000 in cash prizes to be won by participants. Winners will be judged based on category and official time taken using the ChampionChip system (full and half marathon only). If you’re interested but still uncertain, check out the Rules & Regulations, and Route-maps for more details to help you with your decision. Once you’ve decided, just download the entry form (PDF) and submit it according to any of the many official registration stations.
In preparation for the full and half marathons, AmBank will be holding free Circuits Running sessions for the different sections of the full and half marathon routes. There will be tree sessions in total; Circuit 1 on 6th January 2007, Circuit 2 on 11th February 2007, and 4th March 2007. Participating in the circuits will give you a rough idea of the distance as well as gauge your ability to complete the marathon. As an incentive to ‘winners’ of each circuit section, AmBank will sponsor their entry fee to the actual event on 18th March 2007.
In addition to this, there’s also a secondary event called the 22nd FTAA Cross Country to be held on 25th February 2007. A paid entry event which is part of the training program for KLIM. Check out the entry form for details.
Good lord, participants for the marathon are required to report in at 4.00am while the 10km fun run report in at 6.30am. I’m already starting to regret my brash actions. But what’s done is done. There’s still two months to go. I’ll see you on race day.

[…] … and I feel like crap. My muscles and joints ache from running the 10km that I had foolishly signed up for in the Kuala Lumpur International Marathon 2007 Fun Run category. In my current condition, I really can’t see where the ‘fun’ was. […]
