Malaysia Airlines Travel Fair 2007
Malaysia Airlines Travel Fair 2007 (MATF or MASTF) will start on 31st January 2007. It will be a wholly virtual affair much like 2006. And just like last year, it should be a 10 day event with some likelihood of extension depending on the reception and their sales figures.
Between Air Asia giving away 1,000,000 free tickets and the start of the low cost long haul flights (FAX), I’m wondering if the sales will be affected. I suspect it wouldn’t make much difference. MAS caters to a different demography.
There’s still plenty of reason to fly MAS. Foremost being that they fly direct. That really saves you a chunk of travel time lost lounging in an airport waiting for connecting flights. And despite all the problems the airlines has been facing recently, their service is still top notch.
Back to the subject of MATF. They are presently finalising marketing and advertorial plans for the event. You should see the first advertisement for Malaysia Airlines Travel Fair by Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Hopefully their servers hold up better this time around. Last year was the first time they held the fair in cyberspace and their servers crashed due to the sudden surge in traffic.
Stay tuned for more information. I should be publishing some fares and golden packages from the travel fair, hopefully sometime next weekend. That should give you ample time to compare prices and plan your holiday. Until then, chill and book your calendars for 31st January 2007.

MAS website for MATF already crashed at 00.03HRS 31st january 2007. There goes my chances
G: Just got back from a holiday, so haven’t had a chance to check yet. Managed to take a look at the prices from a cafe in Bangkok earlier yesterday. Prices for the flights I checked looked ok. I’m not surprised about the site crashing though >.<

[…] Roslan was saying that “MAS website for MATF already crashed at 00.03HRS 31st january 2007“. While I’m not surprised that it should crash, I do wonder whether it was for the right reasons. I suspect it wasn’t due to a traffic spike. Probably more likely that they took the site down for a couple of minutes to update it. At any rate, the site is readily accesible at the moment. […]

Website always down.
Better off going to travel agent or be like me…
call the Media Room (603 7840 3881), complain and ask to be transferred to the 1 300 88 3000. Once connected to 1 300 88 3000 ask to be transfered to international reservation, give the dates you want and your booking will be confirmed if there are seats available. They will quote you a confirmation reference number.
You can pay by phone where they will call back to ask for master/visa details within 24 hours.
Otherwise, go to MAS Ticketing office and pay within the 24 hours of the booking.
That’s how I got a ticket for my mum to Perth at RM2044 nett (tax, fuel surcharge included) in less than 10 minutes. Yesterday the fare was RM2400++.
I’m happy :o)
G: Great advice/tip! Congrats on your tickets ;)
