MATF Has Begun

Just a few quick updates. I just got back from a family vacation to Bangkok about an hour ago. The Air Asia flight landed at 11.30pm and it took us half an hour to collect our luggage and pass customs. By that time, the 2007 Malaysia Airlines Travel Fair (MATF 2007) had already begun.

Roslan was saying that “MAS website for MATF already crashed at 00.03HRS 31st january 2007“. While I’m not surprised that it should crash, I do wonder whether it was for the right reasons. I suspect it wasn’t due to a traffic spike. Probably more likely that they took the site down for a couple of minutes to update it. At any rate, the site is readily accesible at the moment.

This year’s tagline, “Deals So Good, You’ll Find Any Excuse To Travel” is hillarious. Once again, MAS has managed to come up with some interesting marketing. I love the way they’ve come up with a dozen or so excuses for people to fly MAS to major destinations across the globe.

I was meaning to publish the rates prior to the actual fair. Unfortunately, by the time I got the ‘inside scoop’, I was already out of the country with minimal computer and internet access. Nonetheless, I managed to take a peek at the rates and found those that I checked to be pretty reasonable.

To be totally honest, I haven’t yet had the chance to fully digest the published rates. However, since many people were asking about MAS prices to London, they are listed as RM999.00 onwards. That’s slightly cheaper than last year (2006)’s fare which started at RM1099.00. That is of course subject to availability, the newly introduced MAS tiered ticketing system, and excludes fuel surchage and taxes (RM965.00). That means a return ticket to London would set you back approximately RM2963.00.

Anyway, I should probably hit the sack. I’ll have more to say once I’ve had the chance to take a good look at the price list and such. As usual, I wish you good luck with your holiday plans.
