Gentle reminder for those who have not yet submitted their tax assessment. The closing date for personal tax submission for the year 2006 is 30th April 2007. That gives you approximately 4 days from the date of this post. If you don’t want the taxman knocking on your door, best to get it over and done with.

If you have your eFiling PIN number, then the coming weekend’s a great time to file it via eFiling. Do try and do it early to avoid the last minute rush. The eFiling system is unstable and doesn’t handle traffic very well. If a bunch of people try to use it at the same time, it slows down to a crawl (or worse, it crashes!).

On a bad day with high traffic, it can take up to half an hour to download the digital certificate. Similarly, it may take some time to digitally sign and submit the completed form to LHDN.

DO NOT THINK OF E-FILING AS A LAST RESORT BACKUP PLAN! You’ll be greatly disappointed and might wind up with a summons for late submission.

If you’re not doing eFiling, you’ll have to do a manual submission. The deadline for drop off of the BE forms at the tax office will be close of business this coming Monday.
