2006 Tax Assessment - Last Day For Submission

It is the last day for Malaysians to file their personal tax assessments. As usual, people have left it to the very last minute. This is evident by the traffic hits to the eFiling site. Well, if you’ve left it to the last minute like countless others and you’re trying to get into the eFiling site, be prepared for frustration. The site is incredibly slow to the point that it is nearly impossible to file your taxes via the electronic system.

For those who fail to file your tax assessment via eFiling, you still have time to complete the hardcopy form and drop it off at the closest Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri office. I’m sure there’ll be a string of cars and a crowd there as well. Once again, the deadline for dropoff is the close of business today. That means as of this post, you have four hours to go (government offices close early). You could always try and sneak it in later. Just bear in mind it’s at your own risk.

If you fail to file your taxes and get summoned for it, don’t blame the government, the eFiling service provider, or other ‘inconsiderate’ internet users preventing your from logging in. It’s really your own fault. Quite frankly, the cause of your problems was procrastination. Thousands of others have managed to complete their duty with little hassle or headache, I don’t see how you’re different.

If you’re now rushing, well, good luck to you. For the others, just sit back and enjoy the show. Laugh at your colleagues. It’s good therapy for stress.

    Hi,

Any chance anyone knows how to submit a tax refund claim? I’m getting conflicting advise from people some say just write in a letter with supporting documents, and other say you have to get your employer to write a letter, so i’m quite confused

    Thanks

G: A letter with supporting documents is sufficient. Nothing required from your employer.

LoL… i like the ” Laugh at your colleagues. It’s good therapy for stress.” part.

By the way, is it possible for you to compile a list of problems/challenges faced by taxpayers? I’m a solution-driven guy and with a list i can think of innovative ways to overcome it.

I think it makes alot of sense to post an entry of msian tax system’s shortcomings and hope, on a wing and a prayer, that someone in MIRB will notice it. Thanks. :)

G: That sounds like a nice topic. Will keep it in mind but will probably have to wait till the new year. Let’s just say that it’s time for me to go laugh at some colleagues :D
