Perodua Viva

They are just about to launch the Perodua Viva. It is the latest offering by Perodua (Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd) Malaysia, and intended as the Kelisa (and Kancil?) replacement model.

The car will come in 3 models; 660cc, 850cc, and 1000cc. The smallest version will cost approximately RM27,000, which is about RM5000 more than the price of the existing Kancil 660EX (Basic). Similarly, the mid-range model (850cc) model will cost more than the existing Kancil 850EX at RM33k. The full spec 1000cc auto edition which comes with air bags and ABS will set you back about RM44,000. Basically, all the new models will cost about RM5000 more than existing equivalent models.

Personally, I think RM44k for the full spec Viva is kinda pricey. Especially when you can get a Perodua MyVi 1.3SXi (manual full spec), which is a bigger car, for roughly the same price. Maybe the Perodua Viva specs are comparatively better than the Perodua MyVi, since it hasn’t been released yet for comparison.

I think I’ll pay the Perodua showroom a visit before I pass any judgment. There’s one near my office but I’m not sure when the new car will be available for viewing (and possibly test drive). I’m considering buying a new car but I highly doubt the new Viva will make it onto my short listed models. I’m not quite willing to part with that much money for such a small car but who knows.

What do you think? Are the prices fair and the car model any better than what they have existing?

Nothing too great, looks like a cross between Toyota and Perodua models…

G: Took a look earlier and the interior reminds me very much of the Kelisa. You’re right, nothing too great…
