Honeymoon Destination: Elba - Tuscany’s Island

Some friends of mine are headed out to Italy in July. From what I’ve heard, that’s going to be one hot month. All the talk and planning has gotten me thinking as well. Why not head out there for my honeymoon? That’s worth considering, no? There’s quite a bit to be seen. My friends are going to rent a car and drive around the country. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have the luxury of a group to share the cost. Plus it’s going to be tiring driving all that distance between me and the missus. So perhaps a visit to the islands or some such.

Well, one particular island sticks out of the boot shaped country; Elba: Tuscany’s Island. Researching the island isn’t too difficult. There’s plenty of Elba hotel & travel information to be found on the net if you just Google it. From what I’ve read, the place seems romantic enough.

The largest island in the Tuscan Archipelago and the third largest Italian island after Sicily and Sardinia, Elba has much to offer to the many tourists that come through its ports. Unadulterated nature, a varied winding coastline, and coupled with mild climate all year long. The year long temperature average is around 15.7°C. January when we’re married will be winter which averages around 9.3°C. That might not be the best time to go. Spring, Summer, and Autumn averages 13.9°C, 22.7°C, and 16.6°C. I think period when Spring turns to Summer would be best. But that would require us to postpone our honeymoon a few months. Something that both of us are reluctant to do. I rather have my wedding followed immediately by a month long vacation.

Trekking through the shady woods, horse back riding, lounging on sandy beaches, taking in the Tuscan sunshine, SCUBA diving and snorkeling. Sounds like a plan. The only catch is that I’ll need to really learn how to swim. Probably a good idea to lose some weight and tone up before baring my chest. HAH!

But then again, there’s really a conflict of interest. I’ll interested in lazing around all day and relaxing while WL is more the adventurous type who would want to pack in as much activity as she can into the day. We’ll have to come to some sort of compromise. I figure it will be something along the lines of me saying, “Yes, dear. Whatever you wish.”…

I think I’ll add Elba to my list of honeymoon destinations. It might be too rich for my budget but still worth considering.
