PIKOM PC Fair 2007 (III): Very Good DELL Offer

WL has been eying for a notebook from DELL for her personal use. As such, I’ve been keeping tabs on the offer by DELL for the last couple of months. The offers change on a weekly basis and usually bounces between free RAM upgrade, free HD upgrade, or free delivery. They occasionally give a combination of two of the free stuff stated above but never all. That’s why it came as a surprise when I saw the offer they had for the DELL Inspiron 1420 notebook.

The notebook was going for RM2499.00 and included the following specifications:

  • Intel® Centrino® Duo Processor Technology - Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5250 (1.5 GHz, 2MB Cache, 667 MHz FSB)
  • Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic 32 bit (English) DVD Media Included
  • 2GB DDR2 SDRAM (Absolute necessity!)
  • 14.1” WXGA Display with Integrated 2.0 mega pixel web cam
  • 160GB Hard Drive (After FREE upgrade)
  • 16x DVD +/- Burner
  • Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
  • Intel® 3945 802.11a/g Mini-card
  • 1-Year Limited Warranty (Next Business Day On-site Service)
  • FREE lightweight nylon carry case
  • FREE Wireless mouse (given by the promoter @ PC Fair)
  • FREE colour scheme (this has never been free before!)
  • FREE delivery

For RM2499.00, this is real bargain. While the CPU specs and graphics card is nothing to shout about, the free stuff that they bundle in will save you quite a chunk of money. The usual price for a similar package prior to the PC Fair would cost about RM2999.00. That’s a saving of about RM500.00. Money that you can spend on upgrading the CPU, extending the warranty, or other knick knacks. The free back panel colour scheme is especially attractive to WL since she was willing to pay an additional RM168 previously for Flamingo Pink!

I’ve tried to configure the notebook online but it doesn’t reflect the free colour scheme selection. You still have to pay RM100 for any colour other than the standard black or white. And there is no free wireless mouse. If you want those, then it might be a good idea to head on over to KLCC and spend a few minutes talking with one of the promoters at the DELL booth. I’ll probably be doing that myself if WL decides she really wants the notebook.

Update: DELL has just updated their site to reflect the free colour scheme.
