World of Warcraft: Patches & Disasters!

The huge 692mb World of Warcraft patch finally completed downloading and patching. I was ecstatic when I saw the in-game splash screen. It was like a long lost buddy that I hadn’t seen in years! Alas, my date with World of Warcraft would be delayed yet again by patches (and other disasters)!

There were three patches in total, including the large one. The subsequent mini patches were around 5mb in size. But it was still really slow downloading them using the Blizzard download manager. Fortunately, you can acquire these patches online from mirror websites. There are plenty of them available. I got mine from Bastion of Stormwind.

Here’s a list of World of Warcraft patches that you’ll need in the order they are applied if you are playing the US English version of World of Warcraft:

  1. WoW-2.3.0-enUS-patch.exe (692mb)
  2. WoW-2.3.0.7561-to-2.3.2.7741-enUS-patch.exe (5.05mb)
  3. wow-2.3.2.7741-to-2.3.3.7799-enus-patch.exe (4.33mb)

If you just want to try the game using the World of Warcraft 10 day free trial, you’ll have to download approximately 4gb of data before you can proceed. To speed things up, I really suggest downloading the patches while you’re waiting for the initial 3gb+ game file. That way, you can patch it the moment it’s done and get going!

Anyway, after waiting patiently for 5 whole days, I finally have everything patched up to the latest playable version. That’s when this dastardly announcement found its way onto the main login screen:

Dangnamit! Just to be sure, I logged in and checked the server realms. The word Offline greeted me repeatedly. I scrolled down the entire list hoping to see a glimmer of colour but they all remained a dull ashen grey. As dead as the list of realm servers that mocked me.

Maybe I should take this as a sign that someone somewhere out there is trying to prevent me from playing World of Warcraft and just call it quits.

One of the great things about in-game money and virtual economies is that they never went through this whole economic meltdown. So take that to all of those people who think the real world is better then computer games!
