PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (III)

The year’s winding down and December’s just around the corner. With December looming, it means only one thing. PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (III), the last installment for the year. The schedule and venues as follows.

12 - 14 December 2008 KL Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur
Mahkota Parade Melaka, Melaka

19 - 21 December 2008 Persada Johor International Convention Centre, Johor Bahru
Dewan 2020, Kangar, Perlis
Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail, Kluang, Johor

As usual, I plan to head over early Friday morning. I have a few things carried over from my previous PIKOM PC Fair shopping list. Among other things, I’ll be looking out for:

  • 17/19″ LCD Monitor (I burnt out my Samsung monitor)
  • Wifi Router (for my parent’s place)
  • Wifi dongle (for my aging PC at my parent’s place)
  • iPod Nano Earphones (mine’s falling apart, literally)
  • Renewing my CHIP magazine subscription (and getting something cool in the process)

The LCD monitor is at the top of my list. It’s either that or I find a video output card and plug the computer into the television set. We’ll see what happens there. It’s been ages since I’ve promised my parents to setup Skype so they can easily contact my sister. Between the old monitor breaking down and TMNet overcharging my streamyx account, it’s about time I got around to it. The Wifi setup is optional but would make the setup a lot simpler.

As for the CHIP magazine subscription, it’s hard to believe that it’s been a year. I got myself a nifty Kensington laptop bag with the last subscription. That has served me well. I wonder what they’ll be giving out for free this time round.

Everything said and done, my budget for December is actually dry (and the month hasn’t even begun yet). Although I’m out hunting for the items on my shopping list, chances are I won’t be able to afford them. I was at the SIS warehouse sale earlier today and I saw all the items on my list going for cheap. BENQ 19″ LCD monitor for around RM450, DLink Wifi Router 54G for RM105, Wifi USB Dongle for RM50, and Edifier earphones for RM20. I was very tempted but my wallet would probably die a very horrid death from the beating. The looming global financial crisis isn’t helping things at all.

Only 2 more weeks till the PIKOM PC Fair. Let’s just wait and see what happens. Who knows, I may get a windfall that would ease my finances before the PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (III) starts. How bout you? Doing any Christmas shopping at the PC Fair?

My sister looking for a portable hard disk. So, I guess I’ll look for a portable hard disk that gives out one year magazine subscription free (or the other way).

I’ll be heading over there early morning too. See you there.

G: Sure. Same time same place :)

I am interested in a laptop, might be getting one if I can afford + if they allow ezypay etc. Burning a hole in the pocket - yes, but the temptation is almost always there. However, if I can get sobered up by that time, I might be able to settle myself with cool stuff given with mag subscription - if they are giving any this time round. So like both of you, I am thinking of heading there early Friday morning or maybe Saturday. But I am somehow confused with the exhibition time, can you help me? Some say it begins at 11am, but some also say it is 9am, which one is it pls? :)

    Cant wait.

G: 9am is the launch of the fair. The exhibition floor doesn’t open until 11am.
