It’s hard to believe that we’re half way through the first quarter of 2009. Time is really zipping by. Perhaps it’s the sheer number of holidays that we’ve been having since December 2008 through January 2009. This also means that the first installment of PIKOM PC Fair 2009 is also just around the corner.

I’ve more or less bought everything that I need/want for my computing needs. Just bought a new casing from all IT Hypermarket at Digital Mall the other day (had a few cash vouchers on hand). Next on my list of mini projects is to complete setting up the PC to hook up to the TV at my parent’s place. That will allow them to skype my sister in Australia. For that, I’ll probably still need to purchase a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Then there’s the home server project I’ve been working on (obviously I have too many spare desktops lying around!). That one’s nearly complete, except for finding a good location in the house to house the unit and keep it switched on.

Aside from the mini projects, it’s relatively quiet for me on the IT front. Maybe it’s time to renew my CHIP, HWM and PC.com subscriptions. But that of course depends on what they are offering in terms of free gifts (that’s the main draw @ PIKOM PC Fair, isn’t it?). Portable hard disks seems to be all the craze these days. The fact that they are dirt cheap doesn’t help the situation. Too bad I already have a few of those and gave the last round of PC magazine subscriptions a miss. Wonder what they’ll have on offer this time round.

So yeah, my shopping list:

• Wireless Mouse + Keyboard
• PC Magazine subscription

That’s about it, I think. I’ll probably think of a few more items to add on (maybe a digital camera!) as the dates draw closer. Quite frankly, the PIKOM PC Fair is losing it’s draw for me. The prices are not that much different from normal days and the place is getting crowded with irrelevant stuff. Or maybe I’m just getting old. How about you?
