Cabbage Soup Diet: Day 5 - Soup, Beef & Tomatoes
Busy day today. Almost missed publishing this entry of my cabbage soup diet journal. Today’s beef and tomatoes day. You could say that from before the start of this diet, this was the day I have been looking forward to. The joke with my colleague was that we would start our diet over the weekend so we could all go out for a steak lunch on either day five or six. Decided to home cook today and have that steak on day six.

Day Five: Beef And Tomatoes
Ten to twenty ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water this day to wash the uric acid from your body. Eat your soup at least once this day. You may eat broiled or baked chicken instead of beef (but absolutely no skin-on chicken). If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef on one of the beef days (but not both).
Day 5 Cabbage Soup Diet menu:
Lunch:
- Roughly 150g Home Grilled Australian Beef
- 350g Cherry Honey Tomatoes
Dinner:
- Roughly 150g Home Grilled Australian Beef
- 1 Bowl Cabbage Soup
The cost of the diet spiked today because of the beef (RM35/kg). Also ran out of leftover cabbage soup (thank goodness) and had to cook a fresh batch. This time round, I adjusted the recipe to a smaller portion and tried a different recipe to the one I had used before as well as grilling my own beef steak (see below). Haven’t had meat in a while so I was really looking forward to it. This was the first time I was making grilled beef and I planned to cook the beef medium. I was guessing at the cooking time but thankfully, it came out just right.

Cabbage Soup Recipe Variation:
- Boil 4 cups of water with bak kut teh sachet, 1/2 pip of unpeeled garlic and 2 large red onions (quartered) until fragrant
- Add vegetables to the stock and cook for 15 minutes
- Add soya sauce, salt and pepper to taste
Grilled Beef Steak:
- Season beef with salt and black pepper
- Preheat oven to 140C
- Lightly grill beef on a grilling pan for a minute either side to lock in the juices
- Place in oven and grill for 5 minutes either side (this varies depending on the thickness of the steak)
