2006 Tax Assessment - Last Day For Submission

It is the last day for Malaysians to file their personal tax assessments. As usual, people have left it to the very last minute. This is evident by the traffic hits to the eFiling site. Well, if you’ve left it to the last minute like countless others and you’re trying to get into the eFiling site, be prepared for frustration. The site is incredibly slow to the point that it is nearly impossible to file your taxes via the electronic system.

Reminder: 2006 Personal Tax Assessment

Gentle reminder for those who have not yet submitted their tax assessment. The closing date for personal tax submission for the year 2006 is 30th April 2007. That gives you approximately 4 days from the date of this post. If you don’t want the taxman knocking on your door, best to get it over and done with.

eFiling Part 8: 2006 BE Form - Tax Summary

The tax submission due date is only two weeks away. Best that we wrap this up quickly. The next section in the eFiling electronic BE form is the Tax Summary. As the title suggests, this section is a summary of the tax information you keyed in through the previous forms. It also calculates and derives payable or refundable taxes based on the values that you provided. While there is nothing to be filled, it is an important page that should be reviewed and double checked to ascertain that you made no data entry errors. Don’t take eFiling for granted. It’s also a good place to double check the calculations.

eFiling Part 7: 2006 BE Form - Proxy Details

This next section is only applicable for forms that are prepared and submitted on an individual’s behalf by a firm. The firm preparing your tax assessment will fill it in on your behalf. As an individual, reading this article, I think it is safe to assume that you DON’T have to fill in this section. If you represent a firm which specialises in tax assessments, then you really shouldn’t be reading this article.

eFiling Part 6: 2006 BE Form - Rebate Claims/Tax Deductions/Tax Relief

Previous sections determined the amount of taxable income for which you have to pay taxes. A tiered percentage (%) tax is then applied on the nett taxable income to determine the amount of tax that needs to be paid. This section of the form describes deductions to the total taxes paid.

eFiling Part 4: 2006 BE Form - Taxable Income

Today we’ll look at how to calculate and fill in the section on taxable income. This is where things get interesting. However, it is still a simple task to do, provided you have all the information on hand. Before proceeding, make sure you have the following documents on hand:

  • EA Form (issued by your employer)
  • Applicable receipts (Dividends, Donations, etc)

eFiling Part 3: 2006 BE Form - Personal Details

We’ll start to look at the eFiling electronic form proper. The first thing to do is to fill in your personal details (Maklumat Individu). Some of the details will already have been filled in and it shouldn’t be too difficult to key in the rest. The only real barrier being a language one, since the form is entirely in Malay.
